This is how I think too. It reminds me of this quote I once read:

'Telling someone they can't be sad because others have it worse is like saying someone can't be happy because others have it better.'
That's a great one. I'm going to remember that.

This doesn't have anything to do with anything. That's just the way people are.

Of course all "NT" means is not autistic. Needless to say it most definitely does not mean... not disabled in some way or not emotionally disturbed, not abused, not bullied, not hated etc etc. I know too many NT teens on Virtualteen.org which is a forum for teens with mental, psychological and abuse etc problems, that I would def not want to trade places with. That's what my sig is about. In another similar forum I co-own a sub forum called Island Of Misfits. Members are epileptic, paraplegic, blind, a victim of severe child abuse etc. That's the group of society I feel I belong to, The Misfits.

It's called counting your blessings. I may not have a college degree or have a high paying job but I do have a husband and two kids and a house. We are not juggling bills, having to ask for money, having to let our son go hungry to keep food from running out or not having to pay late fees for everything or pay to cash a check and at least we can afford a bank account. There are people out there who are not autistic but have worse problems than me.

Even The Bearenstain Bears had an episode on this. The cubs were complaining about what their friends have they don't have and their mother said "Oh for heaven's sake" and told the about counting their blessings and told them what they have their friends don't have. So basically the show was teaching children to do this, which lot of people hate getting from others which is what people are talking about in this thread.

It has been a while since I posted here.

Just looking at the NT world there are lots of people unemployed depressed.

There are countless failed relationships drug and alcohol abuse.

Domestic violence and criminal behaviour.

Being on the spectrum is not the worst thing really?

I am not stating the above as proven fact I am just posting what has been mulling through my mind for the last week or so.

I don't mean this to sound cold but I have meet lots of people not on the spectrum that I would not want to swap lives with in a million years.

Being on the spectrum doesn't make someone immune to those things. We all live in the same world, like it or not, and we can be affected by many of the same things.

Autism does not discriminate. There are people who are poor and in third and fourth world countries who are Autistic. There are Autistic people who have other disabilities as well. So it does not make sense to compare Autism with these other things. If you are mega rich and have all your needs catered to you on a silver platter and all you have is Autism than maybe you can say that. But for most people that is just not the case. You can be Autistic and suffer from everything on that list or you can be Autistic and suffer from nothing on that list. And no matter what our situations are, whether we are Autistic or not or whether we are from a fourth world country or not, we can find something to be grateful for and happy about. In fact, I have been to third and fourth world countries and a lot of those people living in one room mud and tin shacks are a lot happier and a lot more genuinely grateful and alive than some of the most privileged people I have seen in the US.
