Where, pray tell, did I say I wasn't interested in autism - or that I was interested in autism?

I'm talking about the hypocrisy of calling 'people' ignorant when the ignorant label could be ascribed to any of us with respect any field we know little to nothing about.

I'm going to give an objective list of what would/could annoy me about autistic people, were I not autistic and had no understanding of it (i.e. an outsider)

1) Noisy
2) Socially inappropriate
3) Demanding
4) Too specific
5) Difficult to talk to
6) Indifferent
etc.

We often come across as the above to non-autistics.

Why should normies forgive our lack of (for example) social skills if we can't forgive their 'ignorance'?

I'd say: be grateful the general public are at least aware of the term - even if they misunderstand it slightly.

Or should everyone read the DSM and learn everything RE every condition?

Because we fall into that dreaded uncanny valley gray area between looking normal and abnormal.

In general YA is full of bullies and low life trolls so it's not surprising at all.

theres always been hatred towards autistic people, especialy to those of us whose autism is very visible and as a result easily targeted by prejudiced ignorants, bigots, bullies, pyschopaths.
just have a look at the aspergers isnt autism thread and shark attacks thread attempt to lighten the situation-both threads show just how bigoted, prejudiced and ignorant people can be of autism that is on a different level to theirs.
we dont see type two diabetics complaining about being associated with type ones, people with schizoid PD complaining about being associated with schizophrenia, or people with treatable cancer complaining about being associated with terminaly ill cancer sufferers-just because one form is more complex and severe than the other doesnt mean they arent human and relateable in that way, just because their experience may present differently doesnt mean the core underneath is different,we are all human and dont deserve to be isolated even further by our own kind because we present and function differently.

I believe very HF aspies (some of them, not all) to be the worst. There might be some bad experiences with family members on the spectrum, but I dont think that this counts for most of their hatred. It is partly because their deficits dont fit into their self-image, partly because they experience mobbing and rejection, and partly because they react to the general resentment against high-functioning autists (after all people on the spectrum in power positions do a lot of harm to others). There is a lot of vanity and anxiety in all that.
