Maps!! All my life I've needed to know where I am and where I've been. Nowadays I like to locate landmarks such as radio towers or water towers on Google maps. Yep, I'm strange, but that's my thing!

Maps were another thing I loved when I was little.

The earliest ones that I remember are Horses and Ancient Egypt! Around ages 8-10 I think.

101 Dalmatians. I constantly watched the movies and had to have any piece of merchandise with a dalmatian on it. Later on, it expanded to dogs in general which still somewhat exists to this day.

It's really hard to remember my very first special interest...okay well to be fair, it's hard to remember last week :P. These are some of the early ones I remember:

-Land Before Time (the first one)- I watched it again, and again, and again.... Dinosaurs for the win!
-Architecture and building structures around my house using atypical objects. This included building using other things, like Legos, Linkin logs, and my brother's Hot Wheels tracks.
-Composing music (using a software my mom had)
-Collecting rocks and digging for clay. This probably started when we went on a family trip where we "mined for gold" and sifted for rocks and minerals. Which led to lots of sifting and searching through my own yard, and discovering that while I probably wouldn't succeed in digging to China, I could reach clay!
-Cats - the animal, not the musical.....okay, you got me....I also knew the musical backwards and forwards, but let's keep that quiet .

Apparently bottles--I used to collect all the empty bottles of everything like detergent, shampoo, water/juice, etc. from my family, and memorize which cap went with which. My parents tell me that the cashiers at the local supermarket would save any leftover bottles of stuff they had from their work and would give them to me when my parents and I went through the checkout line. Amazingly, I even was a bottle for Halloween one year, haha.

I have very little memory of my first few years. The first special interest I can recall was drawing.
My grandad worked for a local newspaper printer and would bring me huge rolls of paper from the big printing machines - even though they were just the end of the rolls they were sometimes dozens of feet long. I'd set up the dining table like an old film camera, with the roll at one side stretched over to the other.
And then I'd just draw and draw and draw, scrolling the paper along until it was all coiled up on the other side of the table. Huge battles between space-ships I remember was favourite subject - I was into space ships long before I could follow the plots of sci-fi shows on TV.

That lasted until I discovered Lego...

Hats. I apparently had a thing for hats, I always get told I used to love hats. I do still quite like hats. My grandad had all these old replica world war 1 and 2 hats, hats bought at wimbledon and lots of other stuff.
And then dinosaurs, I absolutely adored dinosaurs.

Haha! this wasn't my first interest by far, but somewhere around 12-ish I started to love socks. And then when I hit like 18, I LOVED socks, pretty sure I have some kind of sock fetish- I love socks! bright ones, short ones, long "thigh-high" ones, thick socks, socks with patterns, silk socks, cotton socks polyester socks, SOCKS!! ! ! I love them all. Socks with "heat tech" in them socks lined with silver, crew socks, ankle socks, running socks, compression socks, socks with 90 angles at the heel, socks over socks.... all of the socks. Minimalist socks, crazy weird socks you see on fashion runways....

Have you seen http://www.sockdreams.com/ ?
What? No. I most certainly do not have a giant drawer of socks all neatly rolled and organized by length.

:P
Yep I know them! I ordered a number from them- some I'm waiting on to be sold again. :D

I just remembered a really old Special Interest i had,

WUBBER WRESTLERS
Image

Oh man did i ever love these things! i actually had the two you see in the picture, it was really cool each 2 characters came with a stadium, you would twist them up and put them on the floor, whoever came out on top-won!

I dont think they sell them anymore.. I was obsessed with these guys for YEARS but overtime they broke, got lost or were stolen. I remember one particular one was flung onto the roof of my school (by me) and another was burried on the beach. I made them cars and had HUGE wrestling matches that other toys would bet on.

Dogs when I was roughly 7-9 years old.

I would constantly read about different breeds, behaviours, characteristics etc of them. I strove to be a vet but of course, that hasn't happened. Haha.

I bet you would like Flash Gordon!

I wanted to get Hotwheels--but my parents couldn't afford them.

I think my first serious special interest, was an unusual one (by societal standards) for a girl. It was trains. And not just any trains. It was the Santa Fe trains. I guess I liked the red and silver color combination of the Santa Fe diesel engines. I was obsessed with them and thought about them morning, noon, and night. When I was five I begged my mom for a replica Santa Fe train set, which, sadly, was destroyed 3 months later in a house fire.
