Hey, ive been getting really depressed everynight lately at the exact same time- midnight. it doesn't even matter what im doing all the sudden ill feel very energy-less and ill start to want to self harm again and start feeling hopeless and sad and dazed out.

I know how to deal with it but why does it keep happening?? do you think it could be a biological reason?

I wonder if it could be because you it's time for you to go to sleep?

I know, around 9-10 PM every day, I tend to get a little tired and depressed.

When I'm home during weekends, I tend to fall asleep around 9 PM.

I agree with kk.

From the end of puberty until now, at 1:00 am I get something like depression and despair. It wouldn't be so bad but somewhere along the way I learned the trick of counteracting it by eating carbs (for some people it results in something like a mild endorphin hit). NOT good for trying to have a responsible diet. Coffee during daylight hours works much better. Anyway, at some point I talked to my endocrinologist about it & he said that it's the depletion or unbalance of certain chemicals in the blood that cause the late night depression. He also said in a half-play-mocking manner, "it's a clinical symptom of...needing to go to bed earlier on a regular basis". Apparently keeping those levels steady actually *is* part of the role of sleep.

I have found I also get depressed at night. I combat this by trying to wake up earlier and not stay up late. I also definitely do NOT drink late at night unless I'm in a very positive atmosphere because I've found that makes things much worse.

I get very lonely around the same time of night as well. It's the feeling of being so isolated from people that you just want to share your humanity with someone, anyone.

Are you on anti depressants? Sometimes they are used up in your body too early, so you get depressed before you are able to take another.

How about going to bed around 11 p.m.?
My usual life motto is: "Nothing much good happens after 11 p.m."
This is based on my life experience of late-night depressions, arguments, etc... not to mention crime out on the streets, etc...
Try it for several weeks, and see if you can adjust to it, and if it helps.

Great advice - except for professional astronomers.

(I'm kidding - apparently the pro's set up a session during the day and the automatic systems do all the work at night. Now, those crazy amateur astronomers, on the other hand...)

Any chance of sleeping in, or (please don't laugh) napping?
