Many people with ASD hate the heat. I'm the opposite where I can't stand the cold and am always layered even living in San Diego in the summer. Does anyone know why we are so sensitive to temperature extremes? I know many of you have experienced this, but why is it the case?
Once I worked with a woman with autism in an institution, she needed help for everything. So I used to help her in the shower, and I had to be very careful because as soon as I looked away she would set the water so hot that she could even get burned, and she seemed to like it.
It's everything about a different processing of the sensorial information. Same as perceiving some sounds as very aggressive or disliking too much certain materials. Or being mesmerized by shiny reflections on water. It's possibly due to an excessive number of neural connections, but it's not 100% clear.
