Prefer to be alone, in my own little world and far away from social interaction as possible. I'm very much an introvert.

Until it's something that interests me.

I've been something of a misanthrope for decades, though it's rather selective. I kind of hate most of mainstream society but there are a lot of outliers who I really dig. And recently I've tempered my damnation a little, which feels good as long as I don't try to force it. I'm still very suspicious of people though, I just have a tad less disdain for them.

Hello. I'm an extreme introvert. But I do want to have social interaction, just not all the time. I am unsure if my introversion is a natural one, or if it is because I find social "chit-chat" useless and my social anxiety makes me not want to talk. I do enjoy talking about my interest, but not about other peoples. I'm working on that.

My almost step-brother with ASD (I'm unsure what level, but I would say 1-2, probably more 2) is very extroverted and loves talking to people.

AFAIK, personality traits such as introvert-extravert were worked out by people who had never heard of ASD. So in a way, an Aspie trying to determine such things is a little bit like an Aspie seeing a psychiatrist who doesn't understand the autistic spectrum - most likely they'd just get misdiagnosed.

Jennifer Grimes wrote her master's thesis on a "sort of" similar topic. The below is from an article in Psychology Today <click>

Quote:
In her master's thesis (read it here <click>) Grimes posits that introversion is not the opposite of extroversion, but that they are two different traits altogether. And she proposes something that has come up here from time to time: That introversion actually is on the autism scale.

I'm definitely an introvert. Even if I am with a friend, I like to do quiet activities like watching TV or sitting outside and talking. I hate going to loud places and things like parties. Alone, I watch Netflix, use the computer, craft, draw, or read. I prefer to be alone most of the time.

The thing is, autism can co-exist with other conditions that don't necessarily correlate with it. We have to remember that everyone is an individual and, as such, different people will have a variety of traits that have nothing to do with autism. Autism is the way a person's brain is wired and forms a backdrop to the rest of their psychological profile. It's like saying someone is good looking, so they must also have this or that - it's just one aspect of a person. You can be extrovert, introvert or ambivert and be autistic. Or, you can have a high, average, or low IQ and be autistic, etc.

One of the central problems for autistic people is the difficulty in understanding social interactions like body language, empathy, use of language, etc. It's hard for the autistic person to place themselves into another's shoes which means making the right kind of responses difficult. Also, the autistic tends to take things literally leading to misunderstandings and awkwardness in social exchanges.

I tend to be very introverted, but I do still like to be with my friends and groups with similar interests.

A large majority of people in my facebook SPD support group are, and many of them have ASD too.

It depends on my mood. Most of the time, I'm more of an introvert though.

I'm an introvert but I can play extroverted for a short amount of time if it's beneficial to me.
