I haven't been here in a while, is it still filled with bitter anti nt snobbery?

Haven't been on here for very long. It seems to pop up occasionally but I wouldn't say its epidemic.

I'm curious, what would be examples of "Anti-NT snobbery"?

Thanks. To me, that post read more as a frustrated "you too" toward NTs than specifically anti-NT, but I think I get the idea.

I can't blame people for being bitter sometimes. No point in the snobbery though, if it does exist.

There are certain sectors of the autism community which are very anti-NT and I don't like it.

I have NT friends and family. I couldn't bear to hate a significant component of them.

I thought by "anti-NT snobbery" you meant Aspies thinking Aspies are superior to NTs, and that being Aspie is better and that all NTs are stupid and ret*d compared to Aspies.

I hate when Aspies say that. It's OK to say that about oneself, but when they start generalizing and playing the Us Vs Them game, it gets on my nerves. I just take people as I find them. If they are a nasty person, then they are a nasty person. They could be NT or on the spectrum or some other neurodiverse. Although there are other neurodiversities other than ASD (like Fragile-X), NTs are still the majority, so I'm more likely to meet NT people at places like at work.

Being on the spectrum, I always thought, made me "part NT" anyway. That's enough to make the "us vs. them" dichotomy pointless in my view. Maybe that's just me though.

Wouldn't call it snobbery. But seeing as this website is for people who often feel shut out from the NT world, it can feel good to stick the knife in from time to time.

I made a thread bashing NTs once. I regret making it, but I was just angry and exasperated at the time. Naturally, people elsewhere found it and used it as ammunition against me and proceeded to call me an awful person, but I think most of us here can understand a little venting about NTs every now and then. It's hard to live in a world full of people you don't understand.

I see people discriminate against autism almost on a daily basis and no one stands up against it. Does anyone use neurotypical as a slur?

The problem with that is we are not talking about a small group of people here, we are talking about the majority of the population so you are sticking the knife into the back of all of them based on the actions of a possible few.

^that.

i've always been reluctant to tar an entire group based on the actions of individuals, even small groups but...when that group is like TEN TIMES bigger than us, it's not just uncool, it's totally illogical.

we have some great NTs on this site, and i'd hate to see them feel alienated.

ah, someone else sees it. :)

i think if you know who/which places to avoid, one can still quite easily get away from it.

Yes. I've seen it happen.
