All of the big store overwhelm me.

The first thing that hits me are the smells, especially if I enter near the produce.

There there are all of the random colors and shapes.

And all of the sounds, people talking, buzzing and humming of the machines.

The part I really hate is trying to walk around and having people block the isles, step in from of me, walk slow in from of me; all I want to do is get the hell out of there.

And finally the horror of the lines. I have had waiting in a line send me into meltdown. I will often not buy things if I have to wait in a line. I will just put stuff down randomly and leave.

If I can go to a small store it is better.

Food City sounds familiar, if it's the same one then I would agree to much preferring it to Walmart. I hate Walmart but it's kind of unavoidable unfortunately, a lot of small towns that's the only place to shop nowadays.

I have a panic attack/meltdown every time i go into a walmart, probably why i haven't been in one in years. i think it's a combination of the lighting, the people and the layout. also there's just too much in that store, i find it so overwhelming.

It was the same way with me when I go grocery, I have pain in my feet.

If people can, can't you do your groceries shopping online?

The Walmart I shop at is a smaller sized store. I try to go in evenings when its less crowded and more quiet.

DING DING DING! Not all stores are gargantuan, and going at different times yields different experiences. I live between 3 regular Supercenters and 2 Neighborhood Markets. The Supercenter nearest to me is actually only 2/3 the normal size, uses a lot of skylights, has hot deli items, and usually gives out free Twinkies or Little Debbie

You could have a sensory problem with the lights, music, people, smelles etc. I've heard they are doing quiet sessions each week for people on the spectrum in some supermarkets but it's early days still. (P.s. If walmart is getting to you lookup toilet paper forts on Youtube :) )

They do that intentionally, so by the time I get out I am usually yelling at no one in particular. God help them if I have an actual problem. I suppose it is better than Jewel Osco, this time of year the smells in the store are over whelming. The pine cone things they sell have a very strong smell which tends to set me off, feels like I am being poked in the eyes and then the rest of the time I feel like I am being poked in the eyes too many things around and and and and.

So kinda like that.

If only I could make the people who set up these stores spend one hour experiencing my brain but that might be against the Geneva convention.

You may also consider parking far away from the entrances and walking if you physical health allows. There is often a lot of nasty social interaction when it comes to parking close to the entrances of stores.
