Nah, Mr. Ferris, I'm not that sort of guy LOL. I'd be a real heel if I tried to move in on your girlfriend---and I wouldn't do it, anyway.

Why not? Are you saying my GF is a minger ( British slang for an unattractive or unpleasant person )

Yeah I wish there was a magic bullet because meds don't work on my anxiety or depression ( in fact the only thing that seems to work is isolation & time ). I was hoping that if I get a diagnosis of ASD it would put things in perspective and I'd get that epiphany moment , but the more I read here , the less likely it seems that will be the case.
I may have skills but I can't hold down a job. You say you don't have skills but at least you can hold down a job ( that's an awesome skill )

I treasure my speakers and amplifier...!

Not really materialistic though, unless it's got a practical use.. I tend to not want to keep things if they haven't been used in X months. Not had a lot of choice really though, being piss poor (relatively..) my whole adult life..

On that note, in material terms, given the economic and political climate in the UK I have become desperate for some sort of secure accomodation (plus career, partner, etc) in recent times...

I bet your girlfriend is a knockout....and would tempt me.

But....it just wouldn't be right :)

I would say, based upon what you write, that you're on the Spectrum somewhere.

I can type pretty fast, and I can do research pretty well.

But my wife finds all my skills useless. She would love a man of your skills.

I believe "turntable" originated with hip-hop, actually.

Hip hop came in the Eighties. When I shopped for sound components in the Seventies I am pretty sure that I remember them calling them "turn tables".

"Record players" were cheap stand alone things with built in speakers. What you sneered at in the Seventies because they were for kids. A "turntable" was the serious piece of equipment that you patched into a receiver as part of a component stereo system.

Also what would be patched into a mixer in a night club sound system in the disco era. At the end of that decade pioneers like Grand Master Flash would actually physically manipulate turn tables as musical instruments in their own right. And hip-hop was born.

I can be materialistic when it comes to my special interests. Other than that, I just buy what I need and leave everything else for the rest of the consumers.

Yeah your right , long distance affairs never work

There is no doubt that I have autistic traits but they could quite easily be something else.

You think your wife would love a man with my skills but I come with baggage and am hard work which nullifies the skills , don't get me wrong I'm not feeling sorry for myself but there are not many woman in the world who would put up with me.

I have a couple of copies of Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines" on 7". I also have Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" 7" on the same Sugar Hill label. Great records!

My turntable is an old Garrard AP75 from the tail-end of the 1960's (it's about as old as me) which is plugged into a Denon AV amp/receiver.

An excuse for a "Not the Nine O'Clock News" quote!

Smith: Excuse me...I wonder if you can help me. I want to buy a gramophone.
Atkinson: A what?
Smith: A gramophone.
Atkinson: Gram-o-phone.
Smith: A gramophone, yes.
Atkinson: I don't think we got any "gramophones" here, granddad.
Smith: [points to a turntable on the counter] What's that?
Atkinson: That's a Trio automatic-cut direct-drive turntable, unless I'm very much mistaken.
Smith: Well, what's the difference between that and a gramophone?
Atkinson: [smirking] About thirty years and a plastic cover to you, chief.

I never really had a record collection ( a few 7" ) , it was always cassette's for me. I really don't get the resurgence in vinyl , I have alway preffered digital music ( CD's then MP3's )

things that would make me materially happier-

*luxurious car or motor vehicle
*ability to take vacations in interesting places far away
*high quality audio system and high quality room to listen to it in
*better health, and high quality health care
*gourmet food
*an attractive mate

btw, I never have understood vinyl lovers who were able to totally ignore clicks and crackles and pops and groove roar and hiss and rumble and inner groove distortion/"pinch effect" and the myriad other distortions that come with phonographic sound reproduction.

I loved "Not the Nine O'Clock News" especially Pamela Stephenson

I remember the "Not the Nine O'Clock News" xmas book and in particular there was a page describing new words and one word has always stuck in my head.

Fot = The noise made when you pierce the foil of a fresh coffee jar with a spoon

I don't why I'm telling you this :?: but I cannot open any jar with a spoon without hearing the word "Fot" in my head

I was the other way around. I had a few cassettes (nothing beats a proper mixtape!) but hundreds of LPs and singles. I still have several hundred 7"s but only around 30 LPs. I sold most of them when we were moving around a lot - records are VERY heavy! I guess the resurgence is partially fashion. I like the size and the fact that you tend to listen with more care as it takes effort to listen rather than just setting whatever device you use to "random" and then falling asleep :) I use digital more though and all my cds (about 700 or so) have been ripped onto Google Play.

My Aspie mother was born "with the silver spoon" and never wanted for anything. She liked books and low-key travel, and was very surprised to learn that she was living "in poverty" on her investments.
I have mostly lived close to the world average income, and tried to get it down to the sustainable average. A lot of places, that isn't legal, which can lead to higher expenses overall, leaving no time for getting on with life. Since I need a workshop for prototypes, my current setup is pretty elaborate, but I remember happy days with less than a suitcase full of gear, including tools. I am a bit of a packrat, but I use a lot of scrap instead of new material. The objects that give me pleasure are bits of brass I got for under scrap value, and then polished better than new.

I have a whole shipload of Kinks merchandise in my apartment. Maybe not quite, but I have almost every album they had on LP or CD.
