I know my friend meant well but this frustrated me. I guess it's my first case of "but you don't look autistic." Like. I'm trusting you with this information and trust me, I have enough pride that I really would NOT want to identify with something that others would judge harshly. I'm reaching out to you with his information so that we can discuss it etc. but when I told her "I'm 99% sure I'm high functioning" her response was "I'm 99% sure you're not".

Wtf

I'm 99% certain your friend is unqualified to hold an opinion, I could be wrong, but I wish to see the diploma.
Of course, until you've been diagnosed by someone with the appropriate degree, all you can really claim is "there are indications based on on-line tests and reading that I may be..."

Right. Im looking into being tested and we have decent insurance, so hopefully I can get this done soon. I never thought I'd say "I hope I have autism!" I just resonate with so much with ASD and want an answer. I'm already expecting less out of myself just with my self-diagnosis. I'm realizing that I'm just not capable of NT and dang it, I don't want to. I've always struggled with caring what others think. Now I'm letting go.

When I approached my kids pediatrician years ago about the possibility that he may have ASD, she asked me a few questions, then told me that he's just weird.

I'm confused. Your profile says: Have Asperger's - Diagnosed.

Well as long as you know your autistic and you know your problems thats all that matters. I mean, does telling a diabetic "your not diabetic" change anything? Its not any of their concern.

That person isnt a psychologist. Who cares what they think!

Edit: sorry my reading comprehension is extremely poor. Didnt see that your self diagnosed. That kinda changes something because like.... Maybe your not? Im not saying that person is right and im not saying that you are or are not autistic, all im saying is its not 100% certain. You could have a completelyndifferent disorder or not have anything at all.

Well I'm intoxicated right now.. but I'm seriously reaching the point where I'm considering only worrying about what *autistic ladies* think.. and only caring *much* about the opinions of *sexy* ones! (plenty of those on here... mostly taken though :( )

lmao @feardybase! how you knew to mention your state of intoxication before going on to say that :lmao:

OP, i have been in the same situation and it is very frustrating. it's degrading when NT people think it's a compliment to seem "not autistic" to them. and it's funny how the ones who do are always so sure of it. last time i told a friend she said,
"nah, you're just a weird girl. you do your own thing. it's stupid they would diagnose you with that. they're always overdiagnosing s**t..."

*sigh*

I've grown a powerful disappointment in that jester of a word as to how it is slapped around so blithely in the autism borderlands...

If I said, "I'm 99% sure I'm high functioning" and someone replied, "I'm 99% sure you're not," I would take it to mean that the person thought I was moderate to low functioning. What else about the context made you think your friend was dismissing your self-evaluation?

Best response to such people-

Are you qualified to diagnose autism? When did you get your medical qualifications, in particular in the field of autism?

You're not qualified? You don't have any medical qualifications? Then you really shouldn't be making assertions in that area. You're not qualified. Leave it to the experts. And as for my suspicions, I know how my own head works. You only know what you see. You may mean well, but you're not in my head, and you're not qualified to diagnose autism. Better you left that to people who are qualified.

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".
