Hi

I found an autism survey that I thought might ben of interest to some on here. It covers a variety of questions and the data will be used collectively for research (anonymously) and also within a TV show for Channel 4 in the UK.

It is not diagnostic but does give you results of where you are compared to average NT and average ASD populations.

Check it out if you are interested. http://www.channel4.com/autism

I got
Sensory 17
Social 1
Routine 7
AQ 8

It was stupid. For most questions I wished for an answer "It depends".

With a title like 'How autistic are you?' I'm concerned this program is going to perpetuate the idea that 'everyone is a little autistic' and thus undermine the experiences of people who are actually autistic... Yes everyone has traits but most are 'subclinical' and thus these people do not experience life with autism.

I personally found some of the sensory questions very circumstantial... I have never experienced a gas leak in the home.

Also, for the sweets did they mean two sweets of the same brand or sweets made to look similar? I figured the former but could be wrong?

The population averages at a glance don't inspire a lot of confidence in the sensory questions but someone would need to run a stats test to be sure...

As for the systemising questions, they were an example of classic baron-cohen gender bias

To me, the questions were..."off" and so is the title.

I'd have to agree with that. Many tests like this one can have different results depending on the day. A few I wondered what the relevancy and just what exactly it was suppose to measure.

Anyway...

24, 0, 7 for me.

8 for the ASQ. I'm above average! Wooo!

I want a sticker!

(Additional exclamation point here !)

I saw that couple weeks ago. It's a terrible quiz, they have very much cherry picked questions and Simon baron cohen is involved which is not a good thing.

Sensory Perception 22/30
Social Interaction 2/20
Organisation and routine 10/20
Autism Spectrum Quotient 8/10

I'm actually surprised that I scored that high. The systematizing questions weren't very good -- I definitely fall into the top range for that category.

I got a 9 too. I wasn't really sure what to answer on some of the social questions. It varies enormously depending on who I'm with. Sometimes it's like I can read someone's mind and sometimes I don't pick up on the most basic things.

I'm surprised I scored very high on organisation and routine, though. Do they have another definition of this? Because I am not so inflexible, but I have an extremely systematic brain.

Sensory Perception: 17
Social Interaction: 3
Organisation and routine: 14

And to think I'm undiagnosed.

I don't like the title either, "how autistic are you"? You either have autism or you don't. That's like asking "how pregnant are you?" Like it can be measured in a percentage.

Actually, they are right about that. There is no obvious cutoff point. It's just a bunch of autistic traits with varying severity. What qualifies for a diagnosis probably varies a lot geographically. Which is not a very comfortable thing to think about.
