Sunday, June 18, 2017, is Autistic Pride Day.

A day of swimming and barbecue in the park, or a day of subtle protest? Maybe just coffee and a bookstore stroll?

What are your plans?

Well, that's also on Father's Day, so I'll mainly be spoiling my dad to show him my love and appreciation. But I'll probably be doing it a day early this year because my mother and I are leaving on our trip to Halifax on the 18th, and will be driving most of the day, so I won't likely being doing much of anything autistic cultured. Unless stopping to have a bite to eat with my mom and maybe buy some cute little souvenirs along the way counts. And I'll be the world's biggest traitor because I plan to shop at Toys "R" Us, but I decided I shouldn't let that spoil something I otherwise harmlessly enjoy doing.

I searched, but didn't find any events in my area. I guess I'll just try to think about what I like about my way of having Autism, and take pride in that.

Toys "R" Us is a great way to celebrate the day!

Exactly. We should create our own style for the day.

Oh, I never knew there was such thing as "Autistic pride day"! Maybe i'll go out with my parents for lunch and tell them how much I appreciate them. They have worked so hard on helping me through tough times and getting me tested to see if I was Autistic. Also Maybe i'll relax and watch a movie that I liked when I was younger, maybe Mary Poppins!

I'll be celebrating Father's Day with my family. I'll also be listening to The Kinks and watching The Best of Schultz on YouTube.

Might I ask what you plan on looking for at Toys R Us? Shopping there sounds super fun to me! So glad adults still exist in this world that aren't afraid to play with toys!

I don't know if I have any specific plans. My day's free on the 18th, so I guess I should think of something. I'll probably post something on my blog about it, but that's as far as I know what I'm doing at the moment. Is there any specific way you're supposed to celebrate Autistic Pride Day? I mean, should I just treat it like another birthday and dedicate the day to doing me things that make me happy? Or should I celebrate the day by saying "f**k it" to all forms of passing and be openly autistic. By that I mean spinning and flapping in a spinny chair while humming the Little Einsteins theme song, because TBH that's all I've wanted to do all day for some weird reason. (I can't be the only childless adult male who still watches Little Einsteins right? There's something so innocent about preschool shows, it makes me forget the cluster that the world is in right now.)

I don't know, maybe I can convince people to buy me presents for "autism day" I'll try and see how much I can take advantage of this, lol!

My thoughts?

I'd rather not protest. I'd like to think that this day is for awareness and understanding, and I'm not certain that protest would be the best manner to those ends. I might make a video, or something. Or nothing. :D

Well, originally, the day was a big event in a few large cities. But, I don't believe they do that anymore. I like the idea of making the day whatever each autistic individual chooses to do.

I especially like CockneyRebel's idea of watching Schultz. I like John Banner because, like a lot of actors, he was type cast. Too bad. He could have be a better actor if he had been given a chance.

Toys "R" Us is autistic cultured?

 My partner bought me lego from their to celebrate handing in my dissertation!

My dad is hoping to have a family gathering as it's Father's Day and also my brother's birthday that day. I had no idea it was a pride day!

I suspect that a lot of autists enjoy one or more toys (like Legos) from Toys "R" Us. For myself, I am planning to visit a Barnes & Noble Booksellers cafe for my usual decaf brewed coffee and buy the first CD recorded by Sammy Brue.

It's a day to remember to be proud of ourselves.
whatever the rest of the world thinks is not as important as the way you feel.
You are a precious life on earth no less than the trees and the stars or anything else in the universe.
