previous posters pointed out you could get water intoxication. but that's after 15 liters in one day.

it is hard to drink that much.

when i drank 2 liters at one time, threw up.

anyways, drank 7 liters a day several times.

might've drunk 10 liters a day. one day. but that was in 100 plus heat. riding a bike all day long.

I get a hell of a stitch when I consume too much in a short duration. I aim for a litre and half a day, half a litre more when I work out or run. I don't really drink anything else except milk, green tea and only crap I drink is juice/soda when I have my alcohol eves.

two weeks ago, on two days, tried to drink only 4 liter water instead of the usual 5.

result. instead of the usual 2 or 3 bowel movements, large. made only one bowel movement per day. and they were small. and took a long time. over one hour. straining.

but of course, it ain't a controlled experiment.

it could've been for another reason.

whatever.

and the week before that, found 2 tamales at the bus stop. one bbq pork and one jalepino cheese. delicious. briefly considered that they might've been poisoned before eating them. but then it was like, so what? even supermarket merchandise could be posioned.

2 days after eating the delicious tamales missed 2 consecutive bowel movements.

it's gotten to the point where i am desparate.

blow dryers sound so loud. when i am in the bathroom for over an hour. which is pretty often.

It is possible, but I think you would have to drink an incredibly huge amount of water in one sitting to do you any harm. I wouldn't worry about it. Certainly if you've been drinking this amount of water per day for a while and are feeling perfectly fine, I'm sure you are fine.

Oops, just realized how old the original post is  I guess this reply wasn't really necessary.

I usually drink too much water cos I have it in my mind as a rule not to get dehydrated. There are no inbetweens for me. I usually have to pee all the time.

at least 2 times, tried to drink 1.5 liter water at one time. threw it back up. but both times it was within one hour. and both times, no symptoms after that hour.

so, how bad could it have been?

usually what i do is drink 1.5 liter water first thing in the morning. drink 1 liter water. urinate. then drink more water. urinate more. and then again 3 hours later. then 1 liter, 2x for the rest of the day. then it's over.

besides eating, drinking and going to the bathroom, rarely do anything else.

Drinking water when ever you are "upset", sounds better than eating twinkies whenever you get upset (like many), or drinking gin when ever you get upset, or countless other common coping vices.

I drink water just because it's 'there' and get stressed if it's not there. I just really like drinking water for no reason. I don't know exactly how much I drink in a day but probably between 3-5 liters plus some black tea. I don't do any sports, if I move at all, or live in a hot climate so it's I think quite a lot. Also natives here almost never drink regular water but prefer those horrible sweetened and carbonated beverages so I kind of stand out.
When I was a child I drank 2 liters at once and didn't throw up from it. My mother used to say 'everything is bad for you in excessive amounts except for water'. I guess not exactly true but almost.

Yes a person can drink too much water. Look up "hold your wee for a Wii" and a 27 year old died from water intoxication and the station got sued and the DJs were fired. No on drinks water like that so you don't need to worry about drinking too much. I only drink water when my mouth is dry. I don't drink juice or pop or anything calorie. I will drink calorie liquids sometimes but not all the time.

Also you are supposed to drink 8 cups a day so that is a gallon total.

today, drank 1.5 liter water at 6:30am. ate. went to Home Depot. 1 hour 50 minute toilet. failure. (failed the previous attempt, yesterday. second consecutive failure).

at 11am drank 1.5 liter water. REI 2 hours. three one inch rocks. one three inch rock. strained. felt grossly incomplete. but did not feel like it would come out.

4 piece inari sushi, 1 apple, 1 orange.

at 3pm drank 1.5 liter water. vomitted :ninja: . little specks of (what looked like inari sushi).

strained. 15 min. rocks.

_______________________________________________________________________________

before and after vomitting, felt about the same as usual. no other symptoms. besides constipation. and exhaustion. but those are per usual.

for the past year, drank usually 5 and often more liters of water daily. weigh under 110#. almost every day, drink 1.5 liter water at a time.

all this time, threw up only 2x. one time was 2 years ago. and threw up only fluid. no solids (food). the time before that, was about 5 years ago.

so, yes, articles claim it is possible to get fluid intoxication after drinking 15 liters of water in one day. but, it is difficult to drink 15 liter of water in one day without other symptoms.

someone said he got fluid intoxication after 5 liters. but that was a liquid that was not water.

this should give you basically all you need to know about drinking water, the science is pretty clear : water, thirst and athletic performance

People have died from drinking too much in one sitting, as sometimes happens after taking certain drugs which can leave one with an unquenchable thirst. Deaths attributed to Ecstasy, for example, are usually really due to a ruptured spleen from excessive water intake. Amphetamines can do that, too.

Otherwise; it is better to err in the direction of drinking more than you need, for thirst doesn’t arise until one is quite dehydrated, which is not a good condition to get into; it reduce nearly every performance that can be measured. This is especially true in hot weather, and we are now in a heat wave here in central France. I don’t leave my apartment without a bottle of water, I chug from it frequently, and I top it up at every opportunity.

How many litres in a gallon? That depends on if you refer to an American or UK gallon (it’s around 4.5 for the latter).

Quote:
The primary etiology and pathophysiological mechanism underlying EAH—and all known fatalities—is the overconsumption of hypotonic fluids relative to exchangeable sodium in likely combination with non-osmotic AVP secretion (Grade 1A).

Quote:
Thirst should provide adequate stimulus for preventing excess dehydration and markedly reduce the risk of developing EAH in all sports. Physiologically-driven thirst has been defined as a “generalized, deep seated feeling of desire for water”145 and is an evolutionarily conserved, finely tuned, regulatory mechanism serving to protect both plasma osmolality and circulating plasma volume.

Thirst is a good guide to drink the right amount of water.
