Who IS this person?????
You metal rock fans seemed to know him well.
Know him as both a musician, and as a convicted felon! Lol!
So introduce him to the rest of us.
Kristian "Varg" (Norwegian for 'Wolf') Vikernes.
Briefly a bassist for the Norwegian Black Metal band 'Mayhem'. Played bass on their seminal album 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'. The guitarist (Euronymous) was stabbed to death by Vikernes, and his (Euronymous') mother demanded somebody else play Varg's bass parts before the release of the album. The band consented, however, it is alleged by some that the album contains Vikernes on bass, not a replacement.
Also had his own project (Burzum), and produced some of the finest black metal albums that there are (notably Hvis Lyset Tar Os, and Filosofem). He released three albums (Filosofem, Daudi Baldrs, and Hlidskjalf) from prison. The latter two were actually ambient works, not metal music. His music was heavily influenced by Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and RPGs.
Good friends with Fenriz from Darkthrone (another Norwegian Black Metal band)
He was jailed for murder, church arson, and improper storage of explosives.
Served a very lengthy sentences, and was released in about 2008/9, I think. He has released three or four albums since his release, but they are a long way from the glory days of the 1990s.
