Does anyone else hear word jumbles? I often think someone says something totally different but sounds the same to me but doesn't make any sense. I need subtitles during movies or I can't follow. Why is this?

I'm usually OK with one-on-one conversations. But when there are several people talking a lot, my brain will mix up the words quite often, especially if people start interrupting and talking over each other. It's like my brain knows which words were said, the meanings of each word, and a list of which voices spoke, but won't match them up with each other. It gets worse as I get more stressed out, and if I have a melt-down or shut-down I can end up not being able to understand language at all.

I get this too. It makes working very difficult and embarrassing.

I only understand conversations when there is authentic emotion infused with what is being said. Or writtenn. Some movies I can follow because they have enough dynamics, anything too cerebral doesn't compute in my head.

Anyone know what the difference between dyslexia and auditory processing disorder is?
