Do any of you have problems with addiction and impulse control?

Absolutely, I've tried almost every substance. I got addicted to amphetamine briefly, I kicked that habit. I also smoke cannabis frequently and enjoy psychedelic drugs. I dont smoke, but today I bought a pack of cigarettes, threw it away, then went back to the garbage can to get the cigarettes again. I'm also extremely impulsive, and I do things without much forethought.

Impulse control, yes. I avoid addiction by making the world deal with my impulse control problems.

I use medications medicinally, but habitual use results in medicines becoming ineffective. However, I do understand the problems of addiction and difficulties of recovery having been a former smoker. I believe in legalizing all medications as long as people are in the care of a responsible physician. If people really need something, they should be able to have it in the most healthy and safe way possible. My heart is with and for all those who are suffering with addition.

I have some problems with willpower - who doesn't? - but I never have touched and never will touch drugs, and I don't see how anybody else can feel otherwise. Why on Earth would anyone WANT to fry his brain?

There are so many other things to become addicted to besides drugs; food, porn, video games... technology in general, self injury, etc.

I can think of a reason why I'd want to fry my brain but the train of thought usually leads to an impending suicide. I think many people (particularly those on the spectrum) start doing drugs because subliminally, they're ready to give up but they're not quite ready to kill themselves.

How do you make the world deal with your impulse control problems?

Yes.

Substance abuse has thankfully now been reduced down to caffeine at an acceptable level.

Impulse control. I have a weakness for sweets and food. If there is candy, mainly chocolate based items, I will locate it in the house. I will search for it. I will find it.....

Well, not that I would recommend everyone to, but it's ok to experiment with certain drugs. They don't all "fry" your brain. Psychedelic drugs, for instance, can reliably induce life changing mystical experiences that have been proven to have long lasting positive impacts on personality. They have even been used to reduce death anxiety in terminal cancer paitients.

There seems to be an uptick in proponents of psychedelic drugs with the whole "micro-dosing" and such. "Bad trips" aren't just old hippie folklore. I'm not saying that I think you're actively advocating for psychedelic drug use, but people can also have horrible experiences taking psychedelic drugs. I would not personally advocate the usage of psychedelics.

Well thanks. :D Honestly most people I know either don't care or they put down for it. Calling me things like a "moral tight***".

To be honest, in do think there are some arguments for psychedelics like LSD and DMT, but only for a very specific type of person, who can take it.

On balance, however, I think all drugs ought to remain illegal, and cannabis, from what I've observed is one of the worst ones.

Of course bad trips can occur, but they can be avoided with proper doseage, mindset, and setting. Psychedelics give you a glimpse into your subconscious and can be a profound tool for self-healing and therapy. I have taken psychedelics many times, and have never had a "bad trip". I have had difficult experiences, where I was confronted with an unadulterated view of myself. When this happens, you can see things you may not want to see about yourself. Ultimately the experiences were beneficial overall, as they allowed me to change myself for the better. As for "micro-dosing", its a pharmaceutical appropration of the drug.

I don't advocate psychedelic use, I advocate informed, responsible use of medicines.
