[quote="Levin93" I'm very glad to hear that you enjoy such wholesome activities! You do have a point about Ireland. It's a small country and nobody questions the culture of alcohol/drug abuse here. I don't want to emigrate because I hold out hope that the youth here will eventually become mature enough to not rely on substances to give them confidence. I feel connected to my culture and don't want it to be replaced by something that is completely cut off from its history. I may just eventually go and live in a rural area so I can be alone in nature.[/quote]

That is what I did and I have been much happier since. I quite detest towns and cities and just being in them results in increased frustration and anxiety. If you can find a way to support yourself in a rural environment, then by all means, go for it. I have seen pictures of rural Ireland and it looks beautiful.

Thank you, the countryside in Ireland is quite nice, that's for certain! I think I would go and live somewhere on the east coast in the mountains. For some reason I have always really liked the mountains. I can see why you would feel more at peace in rural places.

Ireland has a long history of heavy drinking! Nothing new or modern about that really.

I think you'd find a number of like minded people in societies that preserve the past, such as historical or cultural clubs, hiking groups and environmental groups. Not all of them would involve drinking in their activities m and would tend to be non smokers.

There are certainly others there who would be counted as "misfits " by much of the NT world.

I'm be can still embrace some of the better aspects of the modern world, such as instant communication, but does not have to join the majority in order to be happy and contented.

That's a good point, I have been considering joining a hiking group for some time now. I think it is the only way to connect with similar individuals. There are so many wasters walking around Dublin these days that it can crush your faith in things.

I’m asexual but promiscuity doesn’t bother me. People can do whatever they want with their bodies. Just be safe and don’t hurt others. Go to orgies for all I care. Just use protection. That’s how I see it. Drinking isn’t for everyone but I like it on occasion. Getting drunk can be fun and freeing, although I only do it maybe 5 times a year. Life’s too short to be bothered by the lifestyle choices of others. I know it’s difficult when you don’t fit in with those around you, but it doesn’t mean their choices are wrong. I’m sorry you feel so isolated. That must be very painful.
