Age 5... Likely just as early or earlier than most. Definitely remembered I never got frustrated about it. I just asked my mom -- she can attest the same.

When it comes to milestones involving motor skills, I'm either on time or early/advanced unless circumstances didn't gave me a chance to -- like household cannot afford a bike until I'm 8-9.

I gradually learned to tie them as a kid but it was a lot later than my peers. I also still struggle to tie them. I have a tremor disorder that acts up when doing things with fine motor-skills thou so that's probably why. I always wore & still wear shoes with velcro except when I went to skewl cuz they required uniform shoes.

Later than most, 8-9, I still hate doing it and will often triple knot them and slip them on and off for months until the knot finally unties.

Probably when I was about 6 or 7, I would estimate.

But it was only a few decades after that that someone pointed out to me that there are two inequivalent ways of making the second loop, and that one of them tends to remain tied much better than the other. (Essentially like the difference between a reef knot and a granny.) All my life until then I had been tying my laces like the granny, and they were coming undone all the time.

I just know from 4-7 I lived in Thailand and wore sandals . I'm guessing therefore it was after the age of 7. I've never really understood the different ways of tying shoes. I think I do mine in a bunny loop.

As a kid. I forget what age. 7-9? I remember I had trouble with it (and still do, occasionally).

I was a kid but I learned a lot later than normal. I must have been at least 8 years old. I only know how to do the "bunny ears" method, though, and not the typical one.

I learned "the kid way" at 6; the "adult way" at 10.

What's the difference?
I'm a touch confused.

The "kid" way is when you put together two loops.

The "adult" way is when you tie the laces around your finger to make a knot.

The "adult" way provides a tighter knot, and it doesn't come loose as much. Though, if someone chooses to use the "kid" way, I wouldn't object too strenuously. Whatever gets the job done.....

Odd, I've only ever done the kid way, never knew there was another.
I double knot it and like another person said, for the sake of time keep it that way for months.

When I was in kindergarten, they had this song that they would sing that was suppose to teach you how to tie your shoes, and honestly I found it confusing. There was a part that went like, “bunny ear, loop around, then pull tight.” What confused me was the fact that I didn’t know what part I was suppose to “pull tight”. ‘So I create a bunny ear with one lace, wrap it around with the other lace, what exactly am I pulling?’ I eventually learned how to tie my laces when my step-sister visited and she told me to just create two bunny ears and tie them together. No f*****g song required.
