That we can't understand fashion and wear the same style of clothes day after day.

For me personally since I appear inattentive, that I'm not following what's going on and what's being said. Or that I'm not paying attention when someone is talking to me.

I agree it is a total misconception. I love wearing the same clothes.

Or when people talk about me in front of me as if I don’t understand.

Perfect summation
Thank you
An ASd person CAN be any of these things but it is not the default

I think NTs regularly do terrible things i dont sum them up as a group as being psychopaths n superficial thinkers n bullies n cowards
Bcuz i know that is not their default or even if it is it doesn’t apply to everyone
I really dont like being near NT ppl though

This sums up my son he is listening n will have tears in his eyes or smile (ie responding) if someone is mean, cruel, or funny
Or he will do smthing to show he was listening even though he was singing to himself the whole tim
Ppl including mysekf are always shocked to notice that he was listening
He is also highly caring
The other day a PSW said smthing about how she doesnt feel comfortable because she is new

because she doesn’t know him n he doesnt like her
N its not fair

He then tried to lean his head on her lovingly n smiled n patted her arm n then tried to show her when the funnt parts of his tv show came on
To make her feel wanted n included
Before tht he was avoiding her n pulling away out of shyness

the moment he said that he changed his demeanour to make her feel wanted
Just one of many examples of him being smart n kind n sweet n caring even though u wd not realize he is paying attention

One of the biggest is that autistics are all the same personality wise, that all autistics are shy or hate people. It would make for an interesting character if they were autistic but outgoing and how those two things can clash.
There are a lot of outgoing autistic people in the world (particularly females) and I think that type of autism needs some representation
Side note, I love your profile picture. :D

Thank you! Also I'm definitely adding this one, because this is me! I am slightly wary of people at first, but once I know they want to be my friend I'm very energetic and friendly! I'm going to give the character that quality :)

By "semi-verbal," do you mean that the character has a form of selective mutism (essentially can speak sometimes, but not at other times)? I do, and nobody I've met in person ever believes me when I try to tell them, they insist that I can speak if I try hard enough, I just don't want to, since I'm capable of speaking some of the time - but that isn't true, I'm physically incapable of forcing my vocal cords into action sometimes (especially when I'm very anxious or experiencing sensory overload). That's just as frustrating to me as the mutism itself.

Actually, that happens most of the time I can't meet someone's expectations of me, especially with my dad - I'm accused of not trying hard enough, not wanting to do something, and/or not caring. Because my autism is an "invisible disability," people just don't understand that I struggle at or am not capable of things that are easy for them.

What you described is exactly what I mean. Although he is going to have a very limited amount of words he can verbalize.

I can give you some insight on what it’s like to be selectively mute or partially nonverbal it’s like sometimes I’ll talk a lot to one person but be totally unable to get words to to another.

Perhaps this person couldsee a group of friends but one of them they don’t talk to because of being selectively mute.

Perhaps the they become friends and this person talks to some people in the group and not talk to others and all of them are very close so they wonder why this person is not talking to certain friends .

But hey that’s just my advice

Thank you for the insight! I am selectively mute, but only in certain situations. So I get what you mean, even if I can't to the same extent.

Thank you to everyone for your input! I don't have the time to respond to everyone individually, but know that I read every comment and all of you have been heard! I will definitely keep all of this in mind while I'm writing.

Another question I would have for you all is if you would like me to post my work on here somehow? And if so where? I already have a 'pilot' of sorts out, and I think it would be a good idea for someone other than me to read it and give feedback on how I'm doing with the representation.
