I am socially awkward.

But at least you like Frosted Flakes....that counts for lots in my book

I always likened my social awkwardness or at least my quiet nature to a Mark Twain , Lincoln , Maurice Switzer ? quote

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

Not most of the time. However, there are occasional embarrassing moments. It's a bit like playing Russian Roulette.

A supporting letter for disability benefits said I had very poor social social skills. I guess that makes me socially awkward. Whether it's ASD related or not I don't know.

Yes. I'm quite socially awkward if you ask me. Most of the times in social situations I am shy, quiet, respond with one word answers, stutter (sometimes), fidget, laugh at the wrong times and say the most random things.

Yes, I am the most socially awkward in formal settings like being introduced to someone the first time. Also, in situations where I only know one person in a large group, and they are off doing something and I'm just left there...

Yes, and probably more than so than I am often aware of. On several occasions I have been asked whether I have a 'disability', or 'what's wrong with me', or even outright 'are you autistic'. Presumably many others have *thought* about asking similar questions, but haven't out of politeness.

I've been socially awkward my whole life due in part to my autism.

I'm socially awkward. It has always been obvious that I am awkward.

People just KNEW that I'm going to say something inappropriate when I was a young person. Not so much now.

People wouldn't ASK if I had a disability. They just KNEW.

They would ask if I was on "speed," though.

Oh without a doubt. I've always been socially awkward- around family members, peers, coworkers. It really sucks that I am that way, but it's nearly impossible to control. It definitely becomes awkward when I become non-verbal. Over the years, I have observed other communicating and how they make gestures, then I try to mirror them. Still, that does not suffice. I'm still a socially awkward 23 year old.

I was extremely awkward as a kid, now not so much anymore. But im a high functioning autist, so i learned hoe to be less awkward in public. In fact i talk a lot more now than as a kid, even to complete strangers. Im aware that this is not the norm for an autistic person. Many autistic people will never really learn how overcome their social awkwardness, especially if they are low functioning.
