Anyone else feel like the diagnosis ruined their hapiness?
Yes.
Yet there were two conflicting sides of me when I got a diagnosis.
And ended up listening to the frustrated, prideful and angry side of myself because it is 'logical'. Or at least 'logical' in the eyes of a repeatedly bullied, had yet to learn what it meant, and possibly burnt out student.
My ego's pride doesn't like it. Yet started to accept it and like it, yet not entirely for what it is. And justify both good and bad things, be it self or other, out of said diagnosis.

I feel disgusted with my autism, like I'm destined to be gross, unpopular, and unlikable. The idea that we have less empathy makes me feel like, even though I wanna be a basically good person, I was born evil.
A lot of people on this thread are giving fantastic rational/scientific arguments about why there's nothing inherently wrong with autism but I think focusing on the emotional side is incredibly important to. It sucks to be labelled into a stigmatised, often dehumanised group.
It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. Here and here and here are some lists of positive traits common among autistic people. (Note: These articles contain some over-generalizations; the things they mention are certainly not true of all autistic people.)
The empathy issue for autistic people is complicated, and varies quite a bit from one autistic person to another. I would suggest that you review what I said about empathy in an earlier post in this thread.
It sure does, and it's up to us, as a group, to push back against the dehumanization. Many autistic public figures have already done so, with some success, but we still have a long way to go.
