Inappropriate blushing
Hi all
I'm a medical student and while taking history and performing an arm examination today on a young woman I began blushing. While this was in part due to the fact that arm examination is far from my strongest exam this issue does occur most often when I'm taking gynecological histories from women my own age. Since the first time this happened it's become something of a self fulfilling prophecy and being rather pale I do believe it's noticeable. Obviously this is an extremely unfortunate trait and I am concerned that as well as being personally embarrassing that the resulting awkwardness could cause the patient to withhold information I need for their care.
It seems I suffer from a sort of innate prudishness that I don't consciously agree with and could obviously do without. While I have fairly little experience with women (which I strongly suspects contributes to the issue) I did finally get round to losing my virginity a few months ago at the age of 23 (and in general my awkwardness around the opposite sex has markedly decreased over the last year), and I sort of hoped that would solve the problem, but alas no. In a but a few months I will have my medical licence and ideally I want to have control over an issue that I view as rather pathetic and ridiculous but nevertheless refuses to go away before that happens. I guess I can't quite face telling my family and friends about this issue yet for their advice so I'd thought I might try and pick the brains of people who might somewhat understand this problem for any tips on how to quell it. Any assistance would be much appreciated!
I'm 54 years old. My colleagues, children, friends, and wife still take great delight in the fact that i still blush very easily. Any off color comment or sexually related conversation renders me bright crimson. More annoyingly is most of the time I am not nearly as embarrassed as i appear. If there is a fix I would love to know.
