My senses
Nearly all of my senses are heightened. So I tend to experience life with great intensity. My hearing in particular is especially sensitive. It sometimes freaks people out a little. My dad refers to it as a superpower. When I visit my grandma, I can lie down in the bedroom and listen to conversations occurring in the living room down the hall. In my student accommodation, I can hear someone sneeze or cough when I'm sat in the kitchen, even when they're at the opposite end of the flat.
I can hear the ticking of the wrist watch my dad wears usually as soon as he enters a room. The sound of road crossing signals from roads in the distance when I'm sat in a classroom. In addition, I can often tell which room everyone is in when at my parents' house by listening to footsteps. Sometimes I wake up hearing conversations happening in the downstairs kitchen as I lie upstairs in my bed. I also hear the alarm on the oven from my room when I'm staying there.
My sense of smell is also extremely sensitive. A friend of mine used to joke that I must be secretly part werewolf. I can smell the peppers they use in the cafe' in my University when I'm a few floors down from the cafe'. Plus, if there is cucumber in the same room, I'll know. It has a very strong smell to me. Which is why I dislike it when people cut into one and leave it uncovered. That's the first thing I smell when I open a fridge or walk into a room, and I hate it. If someone lights a candle and blows it out, I'll smell it the next evening. Sometimes after someone who doesn't usually stay over has, I can smell the scent of their perfume for a few days in the house.
Visualisation and improvisation
I am detail-oriented. However, I can also be spontaneous. My imagination, visual recall and general ability to summon vivid mental imagery help me to quickly develop creative solutions to problems and new ideas. I have hyperphantasia. Thinking on my feet is something I do well.
Fast reaction time and slider puzzles
I have previously played a game where different icons flash across a screen. Players have to tap the screen on their side when they see an animal, and ignore all other shapes. Whoever taps first (as long as they do so on the correct shape) gets the point. Each icon only stays on the page for several seconds, slowly getting faster as the game continues. I find it easy.
Likewise, I usually win at air hockey since I react quickly to the puck getting close to the goal I am defending. I was an excellent defender in field hockey back in school because of my fast reaction time.
For some reason, I am often surprisingly good at completing slider puzzles (those scrambled image puzzles which are made out of squares that you can move a few spaces up/down or across, that you have to rearrange until they are in the correct order). I have completed eight piece ones in a matter of seconds. Not much of a skill I'll admit, but it makes for an alright party trick.
