But some people perceive this as being spoiled. But a group home isnt only simply for housing. And privacy is very important.

If that is what some people think then they are taking a rather discriminatory line.

Do people who need them get to live in group homes for free/really cheap? If so then I can understand why some people who have to pay for their homes and still room with others that they don't want to would see wanting a private room as spoiled. That said, I can completely understand the need for privacy, but I have understanding for others too, especially in these times that are financially challenging for many.

Its unuasal nowadays that two or more people sleep in the same room, except their girlfriend or boyfriend. I obviously would have no problem with sleeping in the same room as my boyfriend. (Im gay) But not with strangers.

I also visit group homes as part of my work.

Here in Florida, many group homes only have two to a room and most do not permit sexual relationships to take place in the group home. Even though the group home has no right to do that, many do. Some group homes allow people to come and go, and some do not. Again, it isn't a matter of rights, it is a matter of what the group home will allow.

It sounds like we are far behind England in our treatment of people with disabilities.

I personally would never live in a group home. I understand that some people have found it a good situation for them.

I would be very cautious about moving from independent living to a group home. Many professionals in the field think we autists just can't manage on our own and automatically recommend a group home. Why did your therapist think you should move to a group home?
