Hello I'm Brendan. I'm trying to get through college to get my associates degree so I can make my part-time tech support job full-time. The problem I am having is that my hyper focusing on everything and perfectionism gets in the way causing me to do little of the work or be able to get it done when I am focused and motivated enough, but I am having a hard time sustaining that. I was taking one class and working a job at the same time and that was difficult for me to even get though and now I have another class which is only 6 weeks long and I am not doing so great already. I have talked to my therapist about this and she thinks the best ways to help with procrastination is to write an outline as I am reading the material for each chapter to keep me interested or to also write down a sentence or two about what each paragraph was about. this is good for when I am focused on it, but I need to be hyper focused on it. If someone can anyone possibly help me with this I would appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I agree with your therapist.

I’m a procrastinator, too. My main problem is “getting started.”

It sounds like it's your perfectionism that is holding you back. Is there a way that you can give yourself permission not to be perfect? Maybe tell yourself, "I'm going to work on this one thing for an hour, and then even if it's not perfect I'm going to stop working on it, and take a break, or move on to something else."
