I think it all depends on your purposes.

If you need a diagnosis to get disability or something along those lines, pay the big bucks and ideally get a team of folks to do the diagnosis.

If you are like me, and want confirmation of your own beliefs but also want to give my counselor at the time (who didn't feel experienced enough to do diagnosis) the best information possible, then working with Tania works great.

And if you need it in an higher education context (to seek reasonable accommodations, etc.), then getting a diagnosis from Tania might work as well, as most colleges will err on the side of accommodation so as to avoid litigation. But there's no guarantees. That said for a broke independent college or graduate student, $400 is a lot easier to come up with than $2000.

What we got for the $2K.

2 hour initial intake.

4 hours of testing over two days.

1 hour for going over testing results.

Typed out report with notarized copies (we did need those). That is $300/hr face to face time, and that included writing out the report and number crunching data.

And our insurance paid SQUAT.
Wow, my testing was 8 hours in one day. What you got was really efficient. I am glad mine was thorough as well because like you, I feel like mine was accurate and I have no doubts about any of the results.

I think it is obscene that you need $3K+ for a diagnosis, and no insurance will pay for after 5, 13, or 18 years old. Some insurances will cut off after a kid hits 5. Some at 13. Almost all around here will not pay after 18.
The insurance I had at the time only paid if you were between the ages of 2 and 6 years old. If you were between those ages, they covered the diagnosis 100% without question. Any other age group got $0.00. I told them that I felt that that was total discrimination especially because often times, level 1 girls don't even really present until the preteen years. But their response was basically that anyone who reaches adulthood without a diagnosis obviously does not need any help because all the help resources are geared towards young children so they should not have to pay for the diagnosis if you are older. I guess they consider adulthood to start at 7. And if, like us, you are old enough to have been born before Asperger's was widely known about and recognized, than obviously you don't help either. I don't know why they won't diagnose younger than two though.

I actually called a couple of times to see if I would get a different answer to my question as to why they only pay for certain ages. One answer I got was that they were concerned about over diagnosing and people just getting diagnoses when they did not really have Asperger's so this would act as a deterrent for people and help with the overdiagnosing issue. I think that is absolutely criminal. I don't care if every person on the planet tried to get a diagnosis. You are either Autistic or you are not. Seeking a diagnosis does not mean you will automatically get one. And I don't believe people are just flocking in droves to try to get one just because it's cool. I know that some people try who should not but that does not mean that so many people do that an insurance that you pay for regularly should be able to tell you that because you are an adult or an older child, you should not be able to get a diagnosis. If you are Autistic. then you are Autistic no matter what age you are when you find out.

I know this is an old post but I just thought that I should let anybody who is still thinking about it know that I got a skype diagnosis and I regret it. The report has grammatical and spelling errors typical of a fifth grader. I waited close to a year to get the report because she had been hospitalized but I didn't contact her office, for the report, until I read a post that said she was back and starting another book tour. I could not believe it when I read it. Some of the information was also inaccurate but I was mainly concerned about the illegibility. I recommend saving your money and seeing someone face to face.

I know this is an old thread and that this person probably won't respond, but I really want to know

I had to do GAF, RAADS, HAGS & BRIEF. My parents also had to do BRIEF.
Part of my evaluation also mentioned body language and eye contact, which possibly may be easier to evaluate in person.

Interviews were shorter though, and I wonder if that doesn't have a bigger impact...?

Not disapproving, but getting a diagnosis online is new to me. I'm becoming a dinosaur, I guess.

I just wanted to know if there are any other people who do skype assessment of ASD. Tania Marshall appears to be too busy.
