is it common for people with aspergers or autism to sleep with pillows on top of themselves or is this just some other quirky thing?

I haven't done the pillow thing. But, I used to live in a little shack up in the mountains with no heat. I slept under a very thick pile of blankets, and then my 13 kitty cats all curled up on top. It got very warm and snuggy after just a few minutes.

When I was younger sometimes I would sleep with the pillows on top of my head instead of under it, but I doubt its anything significant because I grew out of it fast, and stopped using them all together.

Hi! Yes, I hide undeneath pillows all the time as I am scared to death of monsters, ghosts, and Grim Reaper, as well as vampires and other supernatural beings!! !! !! I am 16 years old, and often sleep curled up in an embryonic position, rocking back and forth, humming.

I got myself one of those long body pillows and either cling to it with my legs and arms or I lie underneath it when sleeping on my back.

I was crazy about that. Still am sometimes. When I was younger I would keep turning over the pillow so I could rest on the cold side.

WOW, I would just try to go under the blankets, and that was maybe up to 10 or so. with the idea of settling, and odd shapes in semi darkness, a young kid can certainly imagine a lot. And it is odd that if I saw some of the pictures of the nasty UFO guys, I was always wondering if they would happen by. I certainly knew logically. that that wouldn't happen, but that didn't make a difference.

Anyway, many ASD people want the pressure/wieght. I don't.

So 2unkenerl,

do you find repeating yourself is more satisfying than pillows on top of you? :D

This caught my eye... then I pulled it out...

Seriously, I haven't thought about that part before, but now that I do I see it is the feeling of something pressing on my that I like. I tend to pull my body pillow in close and tight to me.
I just thought it felt good hugging it, but tonight I'm gonna check on this pressure/weight theory of yours.
Thanks! :D

Usually if I have pillows on the bed, they end up all over the floor when I wake up. Then again, when it comes to sleeping, I'm really weird. I prefer sleeping at the foot of the bed! lol

I sleep on a futon couch... in the couch position.
I actually like being wedged in that corner where the 'seat' and the 'back' meet.
Sorta secure and comforting I guess.

I spent a week once sleeping in a hammock. It is a nylon hammock with mosquito netting sewed in as a top.

This was very relaxing because I could climb in, zip it closed, and have the material just cradle my body.
The netting gave me privacy and made this sort of cocoon effect which I really liked.

Plus the movement of the hammock itself was nice. I still had a pillow in there with me though.

the only thing i know for sure that Aspies have in common are sites like this one...but, yes...i sleep with at least four pillows; mostly on top of me with only my feet uncovered. Cant stand to have anything on my feet as i try to sleep....
tried the body pillow thing, but that is good only if you like hugging...i like being under the pillows myself.

wsmac,
it might be that thought hadn't posted so re-sent it again, seems to happen especially when server is busy.

Re.pillows, prefer proper weighted stuff.would lie under the heavy duty rug from the floor at night [cant even lift the thing by self] if it wasn't so bad feeling underneath.

lostinguam,
ever try anything else on top,but more weighted? do like the feeling? there are special made weighted blankets available and some people make them themselves, wouldn't mind trying one if it wasn't padded so that it contained too much heat.

Yes I've slept with pillows on top of me for the pressure and comfort, and have also piled a lot of blankets on top of me for the same reason. It's not that often though. I remember when I was little, sometimes I'd like to sandwich myself in between the couch and the seat cushions. Sometimes my brother would sit on me when I was in the couch, which I liked unless he was knocking the air out of me.

KOR:
Yes, I have tried heavier things. When I was a kid I liked to pile all the blankets i could drag from the linen closet onto my top bunk.
The best were these huge and very heavey quilts that my grandfather used in his moving and storage business...i managed to get a small one back to my house once and liked to use it until my mom threw "that old ratty thing away"...prompted by dad who thought his 'sick' child was losing it even more - always trying to tunnel under or into piles of blankets.

Even now, here on Guam where the cool days are close 88 degrees (F) I use a super premium comforter, and several layers of blankets. Under these I climb or wiggle actually and then begin to place the king-sized pillows one-by-one over y body until all is covered. I then squirm into the right postion (usually fetal) and kick my feet our from under the entire pilage.

Sex is rare and very infrequent so no one has ever been privvy to this aspect of my life since I was a very young boy. By the age of 7 i learned to hide most of those behaviors that got me in trouble, beat, or verbally abused by my parents, siblings or extended family --which i never understood since I could hardly speak to anyone outside of my immediate family, it was odd to me they even had anything to say...but i guess i was/AM the blight on my family name....guess thats why they sort of threw me away....at least i still got blankets and pillows...and nobody to take them away!! !! Yeah!! !! !! !! !! !!
