Interesting responses...
As for myself, as you can see by my avatar, no one when seeing me confuses me for a female. However, on the phone, I often have my inquiries responded with a "Yes, ma'am."
As for the responses saying many with my type of voices staying with their parents, I am 26 years of age and I live with my mother, so I reckon there is some truth to the hypothesis.

I was scrawny until high school. In middle school (or junior high in certain areas), I was teased about it. I was at one point 5'8" and 95 pounds. After I was diagnosed with OCD and placed on prozac and risperdal, I rose as high as 6"1" and 245 pounds.
I am currently 6'2" and 195 pounds.

Actually the avatar does look very feminine. At least to my eyes it does.
My parents are still married (33 years back in August). I would have guessed not producing enough testosterone would be the cause.
I definitely don't think it's AS-related.

I've been called "Ma'am" on the phone before. Some people mistakenly thought my name was Kim, rather than Tim.

Yeah, that is why I said it is more likely to be due to undescended testicles. Then again, the facial hair speaks against that.
I see it at the autism meetings the boys are over-mothered by a mom who means to be protective and caring. The dads tend to reject them or are not there to begin with. Or the few dads there who don't reject their kids are hugging and kissing around on boys who normally would push away affection if they were a normal kid of their age. 10 yr old normal boys would not accept a kiss from a parent in public! So the parents feminize the boys even if they do have high testosterone. When they are adults often they are still living with mother and do not have masculine role models so they tend to act more like women because that is who they are around most of the time. I have known many guys who lived with their mom and 100% of them are very sissy acting even when they are straight. It's environment people!
I didn't "accept" kisses from my mother, but she still gave them. she STILL over mothers me, even though I do everything, and am THOUSANDS of miles away. I am certainly not feminine or sissy, but I don't have a high voice either.

My voice sounds to others like an old lady. I get the "Ma'am" thing quite often. I have even got requests for my husband (I live alone and am male) thinking I was the wife. I have also got , when answering the phone "Can I speak to George Sherwood*?" Or "Is Mr Sherwood* available?" I then have to reply "speaking".
Thankfully, I haven't got played the gay stereotype thing yet. I hope I never do. Just for the record, I am straight.
I grew up with both a father and mother who cared for me. I moved out on my own at age 19. I have been living alone ever since with one short (4 month) exception.
As for being called "ma'am" on the phone, I don't let it bother me. I only gently correct them if it becomes necessary. Otherwise, I just let it go.
Of course, there have been many NTs that have had unusual or quirky voices as well.

You testicle theory is more meaningless. How you going to back that up since no one else has mentioned undescended testicles on here as a problem they have? Besides unless someone lives in a third world country or in a really backwards family undescended testicle is not going to be a problem because doctors are always quick to repair it by the time a boy reaches 12 before he starts puberty.
All but one of the AS guys at our meetings is very feminine. All but one is still latched to his mother. Two of the guys do have fathers, but the fathers are very sissy themselves and distant. Course both of the fathers appear to have mild AS as well.
Its also common knowledge that men that grow up surrounded by women get very feminized. My own boss has like 5 sisters and is now married with 3 daughters. He has no male friends, except for one other feminine male co-worker who also has AS behaviors. Did I mention my boss is on the spectrum, mostly definitely. And two of his daughters are AS. He lifts weights, but despite all that he still has a feminine voice, feminine body language and doesn't remind me in the least of a guy.
It doesn't help all the plastics and endocrine disrupters such as soy in food are further feminizing the male population. Have read reports that male infertility is at an all time high. But all you got to do is observe the 70 or so college kids I work with and the guys barely have body hair. Not that that is bad because body hair is gross, but it does mark a feminizing of the male body. Also hardly any of these guys have a father in their life; they are all attached to their moms. So you got nurture environment and chemical enviroment both altering the male species.
First, I did say that the facial hair pretty much discounts it. But they say before 8(not 12), and the earlier the better. They AREN'T quick to fix it, and it is FAR easier now than it was say 35 years ago. Also, there is cost and time.

GEE, my mother ended up in a family with 8 guys!(7 brothers, and a father). Where do your theories put HER?
At least we can agree on the chemicals, etc... And they do seem to indicate that even the viability of the y chromosome isn't all that great. Some claim it will just about cease to exist. Since some studies show this as being SO bad, it must be a relatively new phenomenon. Chemicals seem a likely culprit.
It would be funny if THAT is what does the human race in.

19911,
I changed it in my last post. The one prior to that is too old to be edited. Despicable? I didn't mean anything by it, I was just curious. And HEY, if it helps, I was pretty shocked when I told someone how long I have been in the business and he stopped me and asked how old I was. Whn I brought that up to my current boss, he said "YEAH, you DO have a young voice". And I still remember taking a buss and being referred to as maam. That was when I was younger than you though. And I AM uncomfortable about how I look older than my voice sounds. Frankly though, I would rather I looked younger.
I know that isn't quite as bad as how you see yourself now. Still, you are a bit young still, so who knows. But my job, like most, is about appearance and ability. And they almost always see the appearance first.
So I CERTAINLY didn't/don't mean it as an insult to anyone here. And I appologize for any discomfort you have on the subject.
And why weren't you so upset about the mamma boy/sissy comments? That is what I hated.
