I love driving, even though I frequently get lost (without my gps), and its quite expensive. To me is like an escape from my world of horror because driving comes easy to me. I wish I could do it more often.

I believe that when I start to learn to drive, and eventually - pass... lol that I'll have mixed positive and negative feelings about doing it. I'll get back to you when I learn to drive. :P

I don't mind driving. I even like it to some extent. Even if I didn’t like it I'd still have to drive anyway. Gotta go to work and all. If I have other people with me and they are yapping it can get distracting. If I'm in heavy traffic I have to turn the stereo off so I can think about what I'm doing.
I don't like a lot of traffic but sometimes I have to deal with it anyway.
Even if I lived in a big city where they have good public transportation I'd still have to have my own vehicle. I like the independence of it.

I never bothered trying to learn to drive because I failed cycling profficiency twice whilst at school. I just know that if anything unexpected happens I will jump ten feet in the air and cause a pile up.

Anyway, I love walking, it clears your head.

Stilettos is sort of inacurrate, since I favour the chunky platform heels, but that didn't lend itself to a memorable DJ alias :?

60% of my workday involves driving from worksite to worksite (mostly highway driving).

Since I got my license at 17 years old, I've put close to 250,000kms. I do enjoy driving as one of my main hobbies - it's a means of relaxation for me. I like to take off at 11pm-12am just for a night drive, feeling relaxed and heading back to my apartment for a good night's rest.

i luv to drive. everytime is like the first time i got to drive a car by myself - that was 40 years ago.
the problem tho is - well, i always just thought i was nuts - and my dad thought i was just a bad driver...but the little yellow Dobbs (the road markers) at nite can put me in a trance...so can the tailights of cars in front of me.
i feel compelled to go faster to watch the dots turn into a streaky line of yellow glow in the dark and i go faster and faster...yeah!
i try to drive at nite with a friend (or somebody, to put it more accurately)...that way if i get 'lost in myself' and start to come up on the rear of a truck or car, they usually make a lot of noise to 'snap me out of it.'....
i like driving - mostly at nite really late cuz there are fewer cars and trucks....and a whole lot less lites and stuff going on to distract me.
but sadly, like so much else that i have enjoyed in life, that is something i will have to soon give up. this year i have been in 2 serious car accidents...only one was my fault cuz i followed those little yellow dots into the back of dump truck. the police said i must have fallen asleep at the wheel - no i didn't! but i will never tell them the truth....this island is too small. everyone will know i am crazy and then i will never get another contract from anybody...i mean, who hires a crazy guy, right?

I come from the other extreme of driving. I did it professionally, across 38 states. Perhaps the lifestyle appealed to me because of the extreme isolation it offered, and perhaps the same reason why I decided to quit the job this week, because of the loss of things like family, friends, and community. The happy medium for me seems to be local driving, but will be difficult to break into at first because most companies want at least 2 years of experience, with at least one of them being long-haul. As far as a.s. goes, there seems to be an attraction also to the JOB of driving, a thing that is very demanding mentally and physically (think 13 speed manual transmission in rush hour traffic) in large cities, heavy traffic, tight deadlines, with federal regulations determining the amount of time you can spend behind the wheel or on duty making things more complex. Throw on that fire some gasoline called never been to that place before in my life, and relying on sometimes conflicting directions from the company and your ms streets and trips maps, and you got one hell of a challenging career for someone with a.s., don't you think? It sure made me appreciate the fact that a long commute isn't the worst thing in the world anymore....

I'm not normally a big stickler to the office rules (which are usually just a giant waste of time) but I'm HUGE on highway code! (Maybe because I can see how those rules are actually good, and they really do affect people.)
Bad drivers make me SO MAD!! !

I'm lousy with directions until I'm comfortable with the area - but I'm great with maps! Being told instructions will get me nowhere... I need to see it on a map (handwritten or Google, it doesn't matter so long as it's accurate.)

Spacial perception is a bit out though.... no accidents involving another person yet, though. :)

maps...hahahaha! one of my 'things' and i never use them for what they're meant for; but show me how to get to a place once and i wont forget. i like routes.
anyplace that i drive or travel to or from, particularly in a car or train and i will always remember.....sometimes when i talk about my trips to other countries (that talking thing you know) people actually think i have lived in those places because i will describe going from one place to the next as if I was a local - or so they tell me! hahahaha!! !!

after all, it makes sense [to me]...if no where is home and nobody is familiar then the whole world is the same for me as i guess someone else's backyard is to them!

I couldn't agree more :) I absolutely love to drive to calm down, though I need to be alone with my music all the way up to max volume

To get around my problem with directions I have a Tom-Tom navigation unit in my car

I wish i could drive. It would make me alot more useful as a human being.

It isn't as though I never tried  .....

My (very AS seeming) mom doesn't drive either....it's genetic.

(sigh)

I can't drive because
a. I am very nervous
b. I am very forgetful and careless
c. I go into sensory overload behind the wheel
d. i seem to have spatial issues...where I have a very bad concept of distance vs. speed...or i lack confidence in my ability to gauge it properly.

I have had several people try to teach me.
I have caused dents in several cars.
My arrogant adult drivers ed teacher who claimed she could teach anyone to drive absolutely hated me.
During one attempt at passing the driving test, I almost got in a wreck. :?

Oh, I love to drive. I hate the other morons I must share the road with, but I make it out ok.
Driving has always represented freedom to me--- if something was upsetting me or if things got too bad, I could drive away. even if just to a park or some other place to get away. I also love classic cars. I drive mine when I can and it is like traveling through time, all the modern world disappears and I am driving in the past--- I go into my own place.
When I drive, i tend to focus on the road, the lines on it coming at me and me going over them. It's soothing for me, just wooz-wooz-wooz-wooz-wooz...
It's funny, sometimes i get lost near home... but i actually do better on long distance trips. This might be due to the fact that on any long trip i have a detailed map made out for me by AAA, with every exit ramp, every construction zone and every speed trap laid out on it. AAA gives you all kind of stuff to keep you on your chosen path. i love to drive.

I can tell that some of my workmates thought that I was to ret*d to know how to drive. I was not impressed when I drove up to work in my car. I starting servicing my own car. It worries the hell out of them when I said I done my own brakes.

I did up until my present vehicle ( 4WD extended cab truck)...just too much vehicle to mess with for me now at 40.

Being a woman, and about 5' 1" this usually stopped people from mooching rides off of me...and left a few guys holding tightly onto the sissy bar above the window on the ride home.

Driving back roads actually relaxes me...I do have alot of sensory issues, but it's normally not a problem. I avoid traffic...which isn't hard in nowhere land here...and don't drive alot at night...I do find it easier on overcast or cloudy days, less glare.
