Hello Wrong Planeteers, hop into my Aspie Discovery rover! Welcome onboard.

3 TIPS:

1) Learn to make and interpret joke :

- ASD individuals interpret any suggestion, comment, sarcasm, joke, idiom, etc merely.


2) Learn career involving computers, not people

- Jobs in call centers or dealing with the public are OUT
- Jobs the focus on attention to detail, routine, and precision and don't require pressure are IN


3) Don't be entangled by a narcissit, yes, the world out there is shocking!

- Narcissists are out like alien invaders on our Planet, yes
- Self entitlement, grandiosity, false-promising, and love-bombing on first dates are the biggest red flags

I find my work(s) at call center and as a cashier to be pleasant experiences. Talking to clients isn't hard, you actually just repeat same phrases and reuse the same sale strategies over and over again with minor alterations. This in itself can become a routine.

The only downside for autists, maybe, is that you have to mask all the time; basically forcing a smile and talking in a sweet voice and polite language. But that is a static mask, not a dynamic one that you might wanna use when you have to socialize with co-workers and classmates. Static masks are much more bearable, and requite you to do little to no cognitive adjustments.

As for working with computers, it varies. Literally working with computers, like hardware, is something I don't wanna do. Working with little parts and screwing little things of and on is extremely stressful for me, partly due to me being so clumsy.

I agree with the tip about working with computers. I'm a software developer (programmer) and I get to work from home. It really helps! I'm sure that many of my co workers are autistic also, it seems to attract us

Until COVID I mostly had to work in the office. It wasn't until I got to work from home that I realised how stressful being in a noisy office was, even though people were almost always nice. Keeping the mask on all day is really hard so I respect everyone who manages to do it.

I'm not smart enough to work with computers. I know that I'd do very well as a Walmart greeter. It's easy and simple. I need a job that's easy and simple.

Hi Cockney Rebel, everyone among the ASD community also has their strengths and weaknesses.

Some autists are more comfortable greeting people than computers.

- It depends on the level of technicality.

- But the general trend for those autists confused with caeers is to avoid caeers where there is a direct interaction with clients as firms are finicky and let you go if you are not impeccable with them, but it is great if you find interactions with people easy and simple. If you have been doing that for a long time, go for it

In discussions between NT type of people and Aspies, maybe discuss the different ways a Aspie interprets things NT say .
Without realizing they may be dealing with people whom might interpet their words differently ,then the NT might
Expect ? Just a thought ?.

Thank you Jakki, yes, how the NT interprets jokes differently or how the Aspie interprets jokes as real is an important topic?

I am gathering more opinions before I make the next topic

The trouble with such specific advice is "When you met one autistic person, well then you've met one autistic person".

I don't have a big problem with jokes but the other two tips I have long followed and they served me well.
