There are none to my knowledge and why is everyone suddenly fanatical about high IQ stuff? I mean, these societies are mostly used by members as a status symbol... tho for what, I might ask, lol.

Frankly, even if **I** ran one, I would want administrative fees covered, and have a proctored test! What is the point otherwise?

But Graelwyn is right! My father was invited to join mensa. He didn't even try. He didn't see the point. All the mensa members I knew that I thought were nice didn't like it. And I have known people that CLAIMED to be in mensa that I thought were pretty stupid and haughty! So, I haven't tried either.

I have heard of people putting mensa membership on their resume. But what is the point? It won't help you sell, and doesn't necessarily mean you have a skill, so it is pretentious at best.

It at least USED to be a viable method. There are only a few things that could make people smarter.

1. Genetics.
2. Nutrition
3. Environment
4. General upbringing
5. Education
6. Exposure to smart people

There WAS a time where simply being born to smart parents almost assured you had the same opportunities.(at least in west european and american societies). Today you are almost lucky if anything is. fertility has gone down, food and environment are tainted, and more families have both parents working. OH YEAH, and education teaches more worthless dreck and holds people to a lower standard.

Why? I've been to a couple, but it's really not worth it, and for the free online ones most of the people aren't even that intellegent, they just know how to google the answers. As for the rest, they're so smug about their scores it's no fun to be around them.

A high IQ society would have no use at all if they would let in people without knowing for sure they have a high IQ. So going through an IQ test is a necessary step if you want to affiliate to MENSA or any other (are there any other?) of these societies. I think you would even better go straight to MENSA for a reliable IQ test because the ones online are not always very reliable.

Alternatively you could start your own internet forum with restricted access to people with a high IQ, and use a specific online IQ test as test. Problem is that this system is very unreliable because how are you really going to know if an applicant in the other end of the world filled in the test himself or did not play with the test results.

I think if you want to be in a high IQ society that there is no away around doing a test organised by the organisation. MENSA has test days on regular basis and the IQ tests are done by professionals. So there is your chance.

I think organisations like MENSA have their use as people with high IQs may find it more pleasant to have deep conversations with people who have the same skills. However, I would not put MENSA membership on my CV because that would give the employer a wrong impression of you being an ego. As long as the membership is strictly to meet other people and make friends, I don't see the problem with MENSA though.

Ironically, Mensa is supposed to be one of the dumbest! Yeah, I've heard of like 5, and I think 3 are more exclusive!

If your writing skills are any indication, you won't be getting into MENSA any time soon.
Y not use brain and learn to puncuate?

Well, I'd hesitate to call it the dumbest, but Mensa lets in the top 2%, and most societies are more selective than that (ex. 1%, 0.1%, etc.). Most don't let in more than the top 2%.

I was diagnosed as "exceptionally gifted verbally" (which was an ironic diagnosis because I didn't even take the test in my native language - so I could have scored even more if...) but I am rather average when it comes to the non-language parts of IQ tests. I wonder if I would just fail to qualify for Mensa or if I would just score enough to get in. Guess there's only one way to find out and trying cannot do harm, I'd be rather curious :) On the other hand I am not that keen on affiliating, I'd take the test more out of curiosity because the results of my previous two IQ tests were too different to know my actual score more or less.

I meant one of the dumbest high IQ societies. Even YOU admit that! But I DID put the  there. BTW as I recall, one did let in like the top 3%.

Oh well, I can poke a little fun.

Doing good on the IQ test is like doing good on the ACT. It means absolutely nothing.

I have taken an IQ test before and scored a 93, and I have taken another IQ test and scored in the 140's. It really doesn't mean anything because standardized tests are never an accurate measure of intelligence......even IQ tests.
