#1. I was wondering: what do you all think about?

I realize I've never found out what other people think about, but I spend more time thinking than doing. For instance, if I'm meeting somebody tomorrow, I will go over possible conversations with the person in my head, in preparation or something. Then, after the meeting, I will go over the events in my head, and often think of what I could have done/said differently. So for every one REAL conversation I have, I have about 5 or 6 (or more!) in my head.

#2. Also, do you think in pictures or in words? I believe I usually think in words, but sometimes I am not conscious enough of what I'm thinking about to put words to it - only when I concentrate do I start talking to myself about it in words (in my head or out loud, haha).

#3. Also (one more!) do you have imaginary worlds? I am a writer, so I create characters and sometimes daydream about them and my books/stories. Otherwise I usually daydream about the real world, but of course an idealized version (such as talking to a crush, haha, or traveling somewhere I've never been). When people say they daydream about imaginary worlds, I'm not sure what they mean.

So...

#4. Do you think Aspies live more in their heads than in the real world?

Exactly what I do.

It is also easier to deal with things that way, for me anyway.

I have always created fantasies in my head of the conversations and situations I would like to happen, and in truth, it can be hard to break out of that and interract with the real world. And don't you sometimes prefer to continue in your own head than take a chance on the real life situation, for fear it can never live up to what you can create in your mind?

I think in both words and pictures I believe.

SAME HERE!

SAME HERE! I DO also think in pictures when appropriate though.

Well, one time I spent like 2 weeks living a dual life. I was working even while I was living with a nice wife in a nice home, pool, etc... NEAT!

So...

I'm still trying to find out myself. I DID have a lot of nice ideas when I was a kid, and lived through them. I don't remember a time when I took a shower and didn't live like in another world.

#1. I was wondering: what do you all think about?

I usually think about my imaginary world (see #4)

#2. Also, do you think in pictures or in words?

When I'm in my world I think in pictures, but for just about everything else I think in words.

#3. Also (one more!) do you have imaginary worlds?

YES. It's a mansion with many rooms and two floors and it looks an awful lot like the shopping mall in my city. It has a vast yard encircled with trees. The residents are my imaginary friends, whom I "adopt" from various Japanese anime and videogames. It's a lot more awesome than the real world.

#4. Do you think Aspies live more in their heads than in the real world?

I can't speak for other aspies, but that sure is the case with me!

I grew up having access to several worlds inside my head, and the mundane one outside it. I always find these alternate universes far more engaging then the everyday world.

I always go over possible conversations. I analyze everything - what should I say... If I say this how will they react... What will be my response to their reaction...

When I was little it got me in trouble cause I had such a long response time. My dad thought I was ignoring him or refusing to answer when I was trying to figure out what to say and remember it when I did come up with something good.

What do I think about? I am always thinking about either how to fix something specific or what I could have done differently in a situation or what I should have said (instead of being quiet which I usually am). I am not nice to myself too often. There is always something I should have said or done that I didn't do, probably because I was afraid of or analyzing what would happen.

I don't have imaginary worlds though. I never had that much creativity. But I do think I live more in my head than in the real world.

So weird! From the time I was little, I had an imaginary world with characters that I zoned into all the time - most of the time. And I never created characters - I borrowed them from other types of media and created a culture and society with rules in my mind. I knew it wasnt real or anything, but I always went there. It causes me to stim really badly when I'm in that world, but I can hide it now. I'm there all the time though. That world has been mostly replaced by me instead envisioning characters from my favorite TV shows in situations. I visit my virtual world less and less. I wonder why that is. But it's funny to find someone else who 'borrows' characters for their world! I totally thought that was only me!

Daydreaming, constantly, about anything and everything.

Both.

Yes, yes, yes. One that bears relation to my real world in a "roman a clef" kind of way, one that is like my real world in a scary near-future...and other more fantastical ones.

Me too. :o

But yeah, I always hear about people connecting with characters they made themselves, but for some reason I was never able to do that. Most of the time I can't even create a character, and when I do I wind up hating them. However, I absolutely adore characters from Japanese anime and videogames - I'll get attached to certain series and begin obsessing over the characters. Before I know it, the characters appear in my mind and I begin creating new backgrounds and relationships for them, and they become my companions.

Same goes for everything you described on this end, but none of it has proven to be positive for me.

Previews and reviews of social encounters are incredibly distracting, and I'm trying hard to break my habit.

Getting lost in alternate realities and parallel lives is even worse. An hour will easily drop off the clock if I'm roaming in Nevernever Land, it's hard to pull myself away from, and it honestly puts me in a state of mind that's anything but positive or conducive to well-being. I categorically refuse to let myself go there anymore.

All of these things relate to me a lot.

And on a side note, welcome line2ellen! :)
