This is sorta what I am...

...Actually I do have above average intelligence according to some tests..My IQ is somewhere in the upper 120's/low 130's

BUt I am definitely NOT a genius....i am pretty sure I have dyscalculea...I was too disorganized and uncomfortable and dysfunctional and overwhelmed to do very well in school and I only attended community college for a little while and my only notable achievement there was tutoring students who had little working knowledge of the English language so that they could pass Comp1...They made C's and I made a B-...

My super main interests since I was a kid have been singing and doll making/collecting which are pretty unintellectual.....Though I did spend a lot of time absorbing knowledge outside of hell(school)....I really liked reference and factoid books on various subjects...I loved The Peoples' Almanac and the Books of Lists...etc.......and books about dolls...doll making....doll collecting...and then I have collected other things like vintage hats and clothes (also unintellectual)....and quilts.....beautiful and intricate....but I have only managed to make one myself..and I baffle at the minds who produce these things...But I am not an expert on them...

I got into Gifted and Talented classes where I was teased for being one of the dumbest kids in the class...though they had mostly been there since 3rd grade and I didn't make it in till 8th grade..

I am a childlike adult who does not drive and has horrible coping skills. I can shut down on some of the simplest tasks...like taking a phone message...

During times when I am questioning whether or not I am actually an aspie..i sometimes think I am too dumb to be an aspie.

Hmm... I have no idea what my IQ is right now, so it's difficult for me to answer.
I've always had highly academic interests, though. My interests are mostly language/biology related.
I'm pretty sure I have above average IQ.

This is something I can relate to very much, Poopie. I am of above average intelligence; the last IQ test I took about 2 months ago put me at 131... When I was a child, I believed that I was born to be an intellectual. I was geeky and nerdy, my idea of spending a good time was to plough through books about dinosaurs and prehistoric times, or to puzzle out the family tree of the Greek gods.

Then I entered my teens, and I slowly lost all interest.

To this day, I sometimes worry about not being very interested in science or arts or history at all; I don't read books, magazines, or articles on sci, I'm not interested in anyone else's art in general (which I know makes me sound like a jerk, but I'm just THAT introverted and egotistical), and I have been unable to produce any significant art of myself for years.

I sometimes force myself to read literature, I listen to the classical music station at least once a week (which is pleasant, but doesn't thrill or intrigue me), but I don't see anything anywhere that leaves me hungry for more. I skim surfaces, but I don't go deep. I have no idea why.

What I do to have a good time now is listen to POP music quite a lot, read Marvel comic books, and watch Charmed reruns on TV and Evangelion and Transformers on DVD.

Despite my attitude, I am STILL planning to actually go to university next year and study biology... I have set up a plan that may help me acquire basic cultural/general/scientific knowledge within that year, but I also know that there is a 50% chance of failure, after which I am not certain what I will do.

Yes, I have at times felt dumber than those around me; on another forum I post on -and even on this one- it seems that most people are stimulating their brains at least somewhat... most can enjoy literature, poetry, have a good sense of their local culture and are following the course of their choice at university. My mother likes philosophy and linguistics, my father was good at physics and painting, my uncle was a walking library. I've even felt inferior for not being able to get myself to be interested in those things that -even from a purely rational point of view- are very stimulating to the brain.
I find that I do not have an explorer's mind that would befit a scientist. I don't have the creative mind that's required for a true artist.

I am not sure if I'm positive or negative about the above, I think I choose to feel neutral about it; I am what I am until I decide to change myself.

I have an above-average IQ (in the 130s), but my interests are varied. I like sports, music and photography. But, I also really like history, languages and math.

I do not know my IQ. I do not want to know.
What i do know is i have amazing skills in some areas and feel like i am very slow - and I struggle enormously - in other areas.

I did very well at school WHEN i stopped taking drugs and alcohol (last 2 years.) I did well at uni WHEN i could actually cope with the outside world, but I dropped out 3 times with the 3 attempts at it because i cannot cope with the structure, the imposed learning, adherence to a curriculum that might diverge a bit from my interests, and all the sensory and people issues.

Basically I am relegated to a kind of half life and i fit nowhere...not even in the art scene which is my career now.

giving up and crawling under a rock is looking like a brilliant option at this stage of my life.

I voted above average intelligence with technical or intellectual interests. However, they tend to be more of a hobby. While I may be fascinated by the details in certain areas of life, they don't interest me as a vocation. I have plenty of unintellectual interests as well. ;)

IQ around 130 but, being inclined to mentally shut down under pressure, I can appear dumb.

I qualified for mensa when I was in the 9th grade... so I guess I've got a high IQ. A lot of others seem to think so, too.

You didn't have a choice for High IQ and a mix of intellectual and non-intellectual interests, which would more aptly describe me. I am a student of Buddhist philosophy, and I have a large vegetable garden, as well as train dogs and donkeys.

I don't think of these as non-intellectual interests, but more interactive, hands-on, practical skills...

Anyway, I voted high IQ with intellectual interests, but obviously that doesn't quite fit...

Not sure about my IQ. The Waiss test says I'm average and the test that Mensa uses says I'm above average. Am interested in fictional literature and music. Especially classical music and playing the violin. Are these unintellectual interests? Have never considered myself an intellectual person so voted of average intelligence, and with unintellectual interests.

My mother insists that I have a good feel for language even though I only speak Dutch, am clumsy with English, can understand but not speak/write German, and have been utterly unable to get anywhere with French. And I have fallen out of love with biology since my mid-teens, although I would actually like to become a biologist in the future, preferable in the field of ecology or ethology. I'm currently a complete layman, though, it's pathetic.

BoA is one of the pop artists I've been listening to a lot in the past months, by the way, particularly 'Girls On Top'. Only first heard of her 2 months ago, from someone on another forum.

Poopy,

Your music, especially songs like "How I Won the War" doesn't say dumb to me.

And you look sooo cute as a clown.

(And you're Texan)

I'm afraid I'm straight out of the Book of Stereotype-Geeks. Brainy, brain, little professor and computer programmer and at 15, owner of "HiByte Software".

But them I dicovered girls, and blunts

ps. please, please publish the lyrics and chords of "How I won the War" - only you can make me pick up my guitar again... :D

I am gifted at verbal communication but horrible at spatial perception. My strengths and weaknesses are far from uniform. On the plus side, people have told me I would make an excellent attorney.

Uuuh.. I don't know. What is average intelligence? And what are intellectual interests? XD;
I think I have both intellectual and non-intellectual interests. Like science and... wait, can't any subject be intellectual if you get far enough into it? Like I was gonna say bugs or art or something but those can both be intellectual. But I'm often too impatient to learn the picky little technical details when it comes to most stuff.

So I vote "flawed" but mostly because I couldn't decide what to pick. XD;; And because I think people will use very different criteria when they pick, too.

I have always thought of interest in classical music as intellectual.

That describes me as well. Oddly enough, I have excellent spatial ability driving a car, but not good otherwise!?
