I get a flu shot every year... I hope that doesn't put me at increased risk of developing autism.

Edit: people... this topic was intended as a joke only... please don't take it seriously... there is no danger (so far as we know) of developing Autism from flu shots. I was kidding. If you, like most everybody else, don't see the humor I intended in the remark, please don't worry about it.

Due to the Thimerosol and MMR debates, this is not as far-fetched as one would think.

The "debate" about thimerosal and the MMR vaccine is based in one study, done in the 1990s in England and since repudiated by its own author, which was rife with procedural errors and confirmation bias (reaching the conclusion that the researcher had assumed at the start, ignoring contrary evidence). It's kept alive by ill-informed parents who want to blame someone for their children's condition (after all, it can't be their genes - they're perfect!), and by those with an ideological opposition to the idea of them darn ol' unnatural vaccine shots.

Face it, autistics were around before Jenner first injected cowpox into English children, and barring gene-level nanosurgery we'll be around after measles, mumps, and rubella have either died out or become commensal. To borrow a phrase from another minority group, "We're here, we're weird, get used to it!" :)

Hmm... That explains it. Photoshop can really mess with your head.

Let's also mention that the original study had thirteen case studies--not randomly chosen autistic people, but case studies. You can't draw any conclusion from case studies but, "Let's research this further." And when they did, the tests turned up negative.

Oh, and how kids who are unvaccinated and part of the general population have the same rates of autism. And how when they changed the preservative for the MMR shot, the autism rates continued rising at the same rate. Not even a blip on the radar. And how kids raised in "extremely healthy" environments--like me and my sisters--can still be born with autism... My mom is probably autistic; she perseverates on nutrition and health... we weren't even allowed to microwave our food, eat food coloring, wash with soap that had fragrance or color, be exposed to allergens, or for a period of about six years eat wheat or drink milk... yup, last I checked, I am still the hadflapping, perseverating, socially clumsy autistic I have always been... Of course, our little study just had n=3 and no control group, but the big studies support it, so I'm willing to offer it as evidence, since the curebies are so fond of tiny worthless case studies!

To me it sounds kinda crazy that the Flu Shot could cause autism. :P I also don't believe that the MMR thing can cause autism either, it doesn't seem logical to me.

All from this thread of a so-called little joke!!

You see, I have full 6.02 installed!!

And now I know that all I have to do, is use Gimp so I won't be a Gimp!!
