My mother and sister often use short responses in conversations for example when talking to people about an subject that she doesn't bring up she often just say "yea or "uh huh". Just various 1-4 word quick responses. Alot of types it becomes repeative also.I didn't take notice till I found out I had AS and all the symptoms and things we tend to do. I do it myself too or don't say anything at all. When they do it I guess it's a way to not look like they're lost. It's like our brain doesn't process quick enough to give a responses to somebody when they say something. When looking at somebody else or myself do it comes of as if we're uneducated or very quiet as when a NT can can keep going and say 3 or more full sentences in ONE BREATH. Like when there's no sudden pulse or silence between it. That's like impossible for me to do.

I do this too. Unless it's a subject I'm interested in, I can't think of anything to say about it, other than "OH" or "Yeah". It's especially infuriating when I'm attracted to someone and I can't seem to be interested in anything they're saying. Then when someone does talk about something I'm interested in, I tend to get overly excited and talk for too long. Because of this, right now my nickname is Lady Gaga (I've been talking about her constantly).

No- I use very long explanations for everything, even if it's a simple question. Remember Mojojojo from the Powerpuff Girls? That's me.

I always do unless I'm interested. If I'm interested I can talk for hours. I don't have half-way in that.

Yep. I always do this. I did not notice till one person said to me, that because I wouldn't say anything but "yes" or "no", people assume that this is my way to tell them to stop bothering me and they get offended. But of cause if the topic is my special interest I just won't shut up. Wouldn't let anybody to speak though, so that is not so much for the coversation either.

yes.
whenever the bus hostess tries to talk to me in the morning, i always reply with a "yes" or a "no" stiffly. small talk is exhausting, especially in the morning! and it serves no purpose in that particular situation.

Yes, and when I do the conversation usually doesn't last long. :P

Funny how things are so different around the world.

I'm not sure what a "bus hostess" is, but here, we just have the driver, and I think they might even have a rule that they aren't allowed to talk to you. They'll grunt if you ask a question, and they might snap at you if you don't get your money in the machine fast enough. But I've never seen try to make small talk. Where I live, if you are on a bus, it's assumed that you are mentally ill and therefore dangerous, so no one talks. (Except teenagers, who hoot and holler.)

Yes. I have no interest in most conversations or at least nothing of import to add. This doesn't only affect my conversations. All throughout school I was chided for my papers being too short. The teachers assumed I kept it short due to lack of effort, but I felt that my few sentences/paragraphs/pages encapsulated everything I had intended to say and to write anything more would simply be wasted imbelishment.
