And if so, what sort of music do Aspies tend to listen to? I like softer-sounding classic and alt rock myself, especially orchestral sounds, piano, strings, that sort of thing.

I pretty much like any genre as long as the song itself isn't bad, a few of my favorite bands are VnV Nation, Soad, and Red Hot Chili Peppers

I like a lot of styles of music, but I haven't liked much of the fashionable stuff in the charts since about 1969, and it seems to sound worse every time I hear it. Pop radio stations are wasted on me.

Favourite music is probably rock & roll and old-skool rhythm & blues...also Merseybeat, some punk rock and new wave, C&W, folk music, most 78 rpm records, wax cylinders and wire recordings, reggae, classical (especially Grieg and Rossini), love ballads (if they're original and good)......

Favourite musicians:
Tyrannosaurus Rex
Small Faces
The Beatles
The Kinks
The Rolling Stones
Freddie and the Dreamers
Tracy Chapman
The Bonzo Dog Band
The Rutles
Delaney and Bonnie
Cream (especially Jack Bruce)
Sam Cook
The Jam
The Vapors
3 Mustaphas 3
Jethro Tull
Alternative Television
Amazulu
Seasick Steve
Daevid Allen
Sizzla
Be Bop Deluxe
Sparks (Kimono My House)
Quintessence (debut album only)

I could go on but I don't want to use up the whole page

I like many kinds of music. Some which may count as "different" are Irish traditional music (in Irish), and Turkish pop music.

I am preferring instrumental music, most of my favorite music is instrumental. When I am listening to song, I usually don't care lyrics, human voice is only another musical instrument for me.
My favorite music is Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Loreena McKennit, Dead Can Dance, some melodic electronic music (Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Ametystium), baroque music...

I particularly love music with a strong rhythm. So I like bands like ACDC and also like house music. And also pianos and strings strike a chord with me (haha, funny pun). But, generally most things, I will listen to.

I'm seeing a bit of prog rock mentioned here and there...that's good. Means Aspies have taste! :)

Maybe we're just less inclined to like stuff just 'coz it's popular.

(Edited to correct rather odd typo. Silly iPhone autocomplete!)

I agree. I listen to anything that creates pleasant associations in my mind, including certain mainstream music.

I like any kind of music that evokes strong emotions, anything that can give chills down my spine.

I think I've been misinterpreted a little here - let me clarify. What I meant was that maybe we choose music based on its quality as music, not whether it's the most popular or the 'in' thing. So mainstream pop is fine, as long as it's actually good music. There's a lot of good music out there, so of course we're all going to like different music within that, and have our own individual opinions about what appeals to us as individuals.
