To give everyone the benefit of the doubt, people were upset because it didn't seem like Alex listened to what they had to say. There were a plethora of misunderstandings- and many of them stupid ones, probably- and now WP is where it is right now.

That's the summary in short and not placing blame on anyone. If you want to know more of the story, read around the forum a little bit more, and you'll probably end up knowing more than you want to know.
