I beleive as Aspies we tend to be rude not knowing it and saying the wrong thing since we don't know what to say and we tend to say the wrong thing. So I thought I'd start a topic and discuss different things we've said wrong. (BTW sorry mods I know I've made about like 5 or more topics within 30min. LOL! Sorry again!) My sister's friend came over with her boyfriend and I asked "are you hitting her? Are you treating her right?" (It was as a joke IMO) and he seemed at odd by my question uh ya. (It was a joke as I saw it) Well my sister had a cow yelling at me I SHOULDN'T HAVE SAID THAT! Her friend is someone I've known forever so I was joking around and while I'd never met him so looking back it might of been wrong (I do ALOT of look back that was wrong with life issues) I do want him to treat her right since I've known my sister's friend FOREVER SHEESH! :-) So what "wrong" things have you said?

Gawd...my lil sis...trying to curb this problem she has, doesn't come up too often, but it's kinda bad! If someone mentions that someone has died she will immediately ask "How?" but in a very excited sort of way, I mean the question I suppose is ok, even though it could be touchy, it's more the inflection she has when she asks, like, completely not understanding that discussing the circumstances could be traumatic for the person, she's just very interested to know!

I find that I tend to use film quotes when I'm in that situation esp. when the person/people I'm talking to say something that reminds me of a film I saw. When I was in primary school, I got into trouble and the teacher asked "And if Terry told you to run in front of a bus, would you do it?" and I replied "Yes" in my best Venkman/Ghostbusters accent because her tone reminded me of Walter Peck.

I find myself saying the wrong things, all the time. Quite a few years ago, I was friends with an older man from East Yorkshire, who went to my clubhouse, at the time. One evening, I've blurted out that he was my Soul Mate. I was very embarrassed, after that. I still can't forget the reaction that I saw on his face.

Cockney you reminded me of a scenario with my Psychology teacher! LOL! We were learning about memory and remembering stuff and how it has to be Believable,Important,True for us to remember something or (B.I.T.) (for short of course) So the next day (no class) mom said get up off to the grocery store I'm like Wait we are going to the store! I forgot OMG! I guess it wasn't B.I.T. etc. she was like WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?! I explained to her all through out the store what my teacher taught me and at checkout she said "If you believe in that then go live with her!" I was shocked by this and told the teacher the following day after class teacher response ( Can I speak with your mom Brandy?) Me: Uh no that's ok Elizabeth. (I then left her office since she gave me a weird look after I told her what my mom said LOL! (ffwd my mom has suggest living with A)Psychology teacher B)Therapist C)coworker D) WP AIM friends. (Hey guys I keep track ok LOL!)

I forget important information all the time.

Gosh, I always say the wrong thing. I can't even think of a single moment. But I just blurt things out that I think are funny that other people get offended by. Even on online forums I just feel like saying something, then I'm like 'oh, someone could take that the wrong way.'

Yeah. I'm beginning to suspect that every new post I make is yet another chance to make an utter fool of myself. I probably should have a signature line that preemptively apologizes for my latest incoherent comment.

my instincts are wrong much of the time and what baffles me is that I can't seem to absorb this fact, I will still go with my instinct and crash and burn

Have measured amount of time in interaction NT's say stupid stuff. Felt much better about myself knowing they make same mistake in different social areas.

For example take extremely drunken mating ritual in loud lighted arena know as club. In alcohol/other disinhibited way ,subject to extreme negative stimuli, they attempt to communicate. Much of what is said is utter nonsense under these conditions. Outside club they speak nonsense as well.

It is a different kind of nonsense to the one we speak accidentally and occasionally. Most are better at presenting their boring, random, quasi-mystic , uneducated, babblings as valued social currency, that is all.

Oh lord. This is my absolute worst problem.
Several times during art critiques at school, I have inadvertently made fun of friends' artwork.
Like one time I said I thought that in one drawing it looked like the girl was being "violated." Then I suddenly became guilty and a week later I asked my friend if I offended her. I think she pretended not to remember, and my other friend said "Maybe you shouldn't bring it up and insult her again." -__-
And not only me, once a substitute teacher was late for class. About ten minutes later a student was late, and the sub marked him tardy. One of my autistic friends then said "Hehe, it's kind of funny though because you were late too." And the whole class started groaning.
It's like this won't give up on me, even when thought I really grew out of it.

I do it all the time.

Most ppl think I'm intentionally being mean or insulting whenever I'm kidding or joking with them. I try and keep my mouth shut but sometimes it just comes out randomly without thinking. Other times whenever someone asks me for my opinion, I give them an honest answer and...whoops I said something wrong.

I do this all the time, but it is not always a problem. My family and friends are mortified on my behalf and my mother-in-law says I have no shame. For instance: I was talking to a female colleague about her granddaughter expecting her first baby, and that there was no childcare issue because they both lived with the colleague's daughter. I asked the obvious question of where all the men were - colleague's husband recently died of cancer, daughter's husband beat her to a pulp until he was imprisoned and granddaughter's boyfriend ran off the moment she was pregnant. Apparently you do not ask such relevant questions. But my colleague was pleased to be asked.

The main point is that some people, some of the time, can be incredibly relieved that someone is blunt and does not evade apparently embarrassing issues. Some people actually come to me for "unbiased" responses to problems that they know everyone else politely lies to their face about.

This was just today,

I was at home with my mum making a piece of toast with this easter fruit bread that my grandma bought. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not (I had never tried fruit bread) so I said to my mum..."I'm making toast, you're going to have half".
Then she said to me..."You mean, would you like to have half? That's what you should have asked me".

Apparently what I said sounded rude.
