Ok, so my friend wants to go to the local casino this coming weekend. Anyone here ever been? If so did you enjoy it? Or was it overwhelming with all the noises and lights and people?

I've been a couple times. They are quiet areas, but there are also loud areas. It also depends on when you go. I went during the off peak times, when there were just little old ladies playing slot machines.

I like to go once a month. I play on a penny machine and I get to be Austin Powers for a half an hour.

I find casino gambling to be the most insipid, boring activity you can spend your money on. If I feel like gambling , I'll play micro-cap stocks. At least that activity keeps me intellectually engaged with research.

I never saw what all the hubabalo was about. If my friends wanted to hang out with me, they'd know beter and want to go to a museum or something we could all enjoy. If I knew I wouldn't enjoy something, I'd tell e friends to go by themselves or sever all ties with me.

If I had to make a list of the most stressful places I've ever been (RE: sensory overload), casinos would be second from the top, or perhaps even hold the top spot.

I've been in quite a few of them at varying times of day and year, and they are always an assault. Even when they're "quiet," with just little old ladies playing the slots, there are still many colorful and flashing lights on the machines, the carpets are grotesquely-patterned and disorienting, and most casinos have a lot of mirrors at varying angles. Sound-wise, there are constant pinging and dinging sounds and different types of music all coming at you at once. There are also no windows in most areas, so that you can't easily determine how much time has elapsed. They are often rather crowded as well.

Maybe do some research online about what else there is to do in town, and tell them something like, "I've never been, so I don't know if I'll enjoy it. It's a pretty reasonable request - it's not fair for them to expect you stay there for hours and hours if you're either bored out of your skull, or ready to scream.

I absolutely love casinos. Always have, ever since I was a little kid. The lights and sounds and games are intoxicating for me. I can't wait until I save up enough money to go to Vegas. Last time I was there was when I was 10, so I couldn't gamble. I have lots of intense sensory issues, but the only sensory issue that is bothered by casinos is my aversion to cigarette smoke.
