Ok so we all know that aspie girls mask and camoflauge their difficulties and often come across as normal. Because of this: do a lot of aspie girls just not have that outward awkwardness about them? Im speaking strictly from a outside perspective. I was wondering. How exactly do you aspie girls mask and camoflauge your difficulties? Cause I really dont know how to as an aspie girl. I cant fake things for s**t.

I look awkward. I can't help it. But people don't think, "Oh, she has Asperger's," they just think, "She's awkward and weird."

Some days are better than others for me but I still think there is awkwardness, worse in new situations and around new people.

Same. I'm more extroverted now, especially around my friends. However, when you try to take my picture or videotape me, I get all stiff. That's when it becomes more apparent. I've had people tell me that my case isn't "real" since I appear to be so normal. Ugh, so frustrating. >.<

I'm pretty awkward and obvious. I'm a Dandy in a dangerous world. It's like I'm a Kink in a video game and the NTs of the younger generation are my enemies. I get a certain ammount for each one I shoot. I like it that way.

For me there are two sides to the coin. I'm attractive and well-dressed, so I look normal on the outside. When I'm feeling very shy/awkward people assume that I'm stuck-up and hate them.

It's a myth that Asperger's girls are all able to mimic and hide their autism. I get so sick of hearing it. I think girls are more likely to have the ability to do this, but it isn't universal.

I made a topic about this awhile back. I agree the whole we mask things better isn't true for everyone. My bad behavior/issues stick out and almost daily I get told don't do this/that. It's annoying!! !

As a kid, I was identified as gifted really early on. I heard all the time that the reason I didn't fit in with the other kids was due to my giftedness, so it never occurred to me that there was something wrong with me. Until high school, which is a completely different story. My attitude was basically: I don't have to conform to everyone else; everyone else should conform to me!

I have been able to hide my difficulties fairly well, and it has gotten better over the years. A lot of it is to do with faking or "going through the motions"...basically through observation and research I have learned the "correct ways" to position my eyes, use gestures, do body language etc, to the point where I give the appearance of an outgoing, confident NT: even when I'm at my most vulnerable, I plaster the fake, stupid smile on. It used to be incredibly exhausting for me when I first started gaining the skills, but now I've done them so much taht I simple can't erase these things away as most of these have become automatic. As for how I've learned this, I'm still trying to figure it out, but I was essentially forced/scared into it as I thought the only way I could be was NT.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I don't think I have that outward awkwardness, they think I'm just very shy.

I think awkwardness is fairly hard to mask unless it isn't very extreme. I find sometimes I just cannot help by be completely awkward.
