As a child, I was so obsessed with electronics that I tookEVERYTHING apart to figure it out, including our television!

I also reversed engineered my mothers baby moniter to listen in on our neighbors cordless phone conversations

Oh, you'll find a few of us here. A couple of us work with the stuff every day. Do you lean towards newer stuff or vintage?

I have in the past had an interest in electronics. I even built a couple of Heathkits as a child. I used to always try and keep up with the latest technology in computers, TVs, etc., but these days it moves so fast it's hard to do so.

Building the Heathkit was challenging and fun, but made rather difficult by my interfering parents who at the time, were on a this kick about my having to learn to enjoy swimming and swim every day. It seemed like whenever I wanted to work, my sister would decide she wanted to swim and my parents would drag me away from the soldering iron. After spending an entire summer fighting them on this, I kind of gave up on my interest in building kits because I didn't want to fight them anymore. I didn't even understand why I had to fight them to begin with, building kits is educational and challenging, so why was it a problem for them?

Even though I gave up buidling, I still tried to keep up with technology and enjoyed reading about it alot, but never did much else with it. I did later get my ham radio license, and do build my own computers, and still have something of an interest in electronics, though not what it once was.

I have always enjoyed audio, and now video, electronics. Also computers these days.

When I was in college, I worked at the radio station. Nothing could have been better.

I do my own computer repairs and most of the families, plus I work on amplifiers and amplified instruments sometimes for friends. I am also a huge radio and amateur radio buff, I chat on FRS, GMRS, 11 meter CB, and am trying to get my ham license - I have trouble remembering the freqs, and they are FCC required, have failed test twice by one freq. question but score high on tech, radiation, wavelength etc. Will get it someday...
Lot of fun, and great communities without the stress of f2f (face to face) meetings. and I live in a very live broadcast area...

any ham freaks out there?

If so my friends Logan, KG4ICN and Dan, KF4LNE, and Arnold, KG4SET - all AS friendly NTs say hi. And hopefully, I'll have a call sign after the 4th. wish me luck...

I love 1980s computers, too bad you can't get them here. I built my own computer and I do electronics repairs. I'm currently reading The Black Art of Video Game Console Desing by Andre LaMothe, it's really interesting for anyone who wants to learn electrical engineering.

Oh, very much so ! :D It's my love for electronics that's gotten me the job I have! I enjoy the audiovisual electronics more than anything. The stuff that makes sound and light. Unlike many aspies, I didn't get into computers quite as much, although I do say I'm better than average at some things on them, mainly stuff like video editing, digital photography, sound recording, and other A/V related taskes on a computer. One of the more fun things, and what I do for a living is what is typically called integrating electronics. Which is basically connecting smaller devices up in ways and forms to make them perform a specific task, or a multitude of jobs. I can sit down with an autocad sheet, and a list of equipment, and I can do wonders drawing up circuit diagrams on how to interconnect the stuff.

Like "Parts" I'm into the tube electronics too, along with many other older electronic devices. I've always found the more "animated" older equipment particularly fun, with it's bouncing meteres, whirling reels, flickering lights, and other interesting bells and whistles. More modern electronics are more reliable and simple, but they lack the character and intrigue that much of the older stuff has. Give me an old tube console TV and a small screwdiver, and I will be entertained for hours. Give me a modern cable-ready TV, and I will get bored with it really quick! Also, like Cyberpunk, I too am an amateur radio operator, and have always been especially intrigued with the old tube radio gear, along with building antennas and stuff.. The HAM radio community seems to have a large amount of undiag'ed aspies in it too...just visit a hamfest!

Like PrisonerSix, I too enjoyed spending time with the soldering iron, and a handfull of parts. Luckily, my parents embraced my love for electronics at a young age and sort of encouraged it. My Father and I studied and passed the amateur radio test together when I was 12 years old. They also got me one of those neat Radio Shack experiementer's kits where you can connect up individual components by simply putting the wires under little springs. I wired up the stuff in the book, but also made many of my own circuits too!

Sounds like a couple of you (and you know who you are) need to make a trip to Pennsylvania in September for the Delaware Valley Historic Radio Club's next antique radio fair. You'll see the bouncing meters and whirring reels, and loads of other stuff. Maybe you'll even meet some other hams. Bring a truck, SUV or station wagon to drive your goodies back home in - you'll get plenty.
