My 9 y old son is also AS, and I don't get it. I explained to him that sometimes people aren't sure it's "them" you were saying hi to, sometimes you didn't say it loud enough , so they weren't sure what you said. Then, while we were on a walk, he literally SCREAMED "hello !" to our neighbour, and she looked at him and...didn't answer!! !
He said, you see, I said it loud, how could she not hear me? I said never mind her, she's just weird. I mean, she acted weirder than any of us ever act. AAAnyway I'll tell you the same I told him: don't mind them, they're just weird.
