I ask this because receiving signals subconsciously I believe usually involves body language...which we don't pick up.

And usually when subliminal messages are played via music...I can't really pick up on anything other than "this music sounds a certain way".

Look, I admit it: I was recently watching a "remake" of a mythical arcade game on Youtube by the name of Polybius, which supposedly gave people nightmares, among other things...and also supposedly contained subliminal messages.

I was watching the video footage of the "remake", and I kept totally missing the subliminal messages; I likely wouldn't have picked up on them either unless they were literally shown to me.

I know we can pick up on details in the woodwork that NTs can't, but does that include subconscious subliminal messages, too?

In fact, here, check out the video yourselves:

If something is designed to be subliminal, then you aren't supposed to be able to pick up on it with your conscious mind.

but in a way, doesn't body language semi-fall into this category?

That video made me feel dizzy. Was that the subliminal message?

I have never picked up any in the past but I noticed words flashing across the screen and a face but couldn't see the details or what the words said until slow motion.

I have only speculation on my hand. I'm not good at picking up verbal messages, I guess my subconscious is unable to do so without affecting my conscious, or at least giving a notice to it. Second, the inducing of seizure in the game is enormous, I think it suppresses any other input channels in my mind. I doubt I would be able to play the game with such intense background.

I've been embedding subliminals in my posts for months. You finally caved and posted this video, just as I was telling you to do ...

If we purposefully start looking for them and repeat it enough times we'll have enough practice to pick them up as fast as NTs except...

...They wouldn't be subliminal for us. We would be consciously aware of them.

Could be useful. Maybe some of us should take to uncovering the "secrets" of subliminal messages sent out by corporations and expose scandalous ones to the public.

Cultivating this ability to spot subliminal messages in YouTube videos is added to my evergrowing To-Do List. I just hope I get to it at some point.

Immune? Hardly.

Affected equally to NTs? No.

Most "subliminal" advertising is really 100% legal because they don't use classic subliminal messages. What they use are colors, images, sounds, etc. to press emotional/psychological buttons that trigger primal instincts of desire, lust, want to associate with the advertised product or even a political idea.

People with Autism can just as easily be manipulated. The wrench in the gears is that we don't respond to stimulus the same as NTs, so we might not be moved by all advertising, but some particular ads might affect us very effectively.

This.

Not sure why anyone would play that game. I made it to 6 minutes and then I started getting a headache. Looks rubbish.

They did a test on Mythbusters (I think) by putting up subliminal messages such as 'yawn' or 'touch your nose' and people did it. I don't know if it really does work or there's a correlation between words and actions, i.e when I try not to blink I can't stop blinking. The word makes you unintentionally do an action.

That video though did make me feel tingly in a preaura way and did give me a bit more seizure activity. Also, did they say it caused hallucinations too? Because you know, I think someone let a bird into the bathroom.

It sounds like a psychological military experiment. It actually stayed in my mind many minutes after watching it. It might just have been the repetitiveness of it.

I actually want to play the game now.
And then join the army.

There's no solid science behind the assertion that subliminal messages can influence behavior, so this is a bit like asking are we immune to a nonfunctioning virus.

I'm kind of scared of this video now. After a restless night and seeing birds in my bathroom the next morning, I had a shivering episode that lasted about an hour and I was freezing even sitting in the Sun. OK the only out of the ordinary thing was the shivering episode.

WTF is this game? 8O

I think our minds are just too hyperfocused on something else to notice these messages. Being subliminal, we aren't supposed to notice them anyway. But I think our brains filter out their effects because we have bigger, more unique things going on in our heads.

Is the uncanny valley the same sort of thing?
