Is there a connection between premature birth and AS?

I did not vote, but actually my son with HFA was born premature by about a month. My daughter with MR (mild) and microcephaly was born very prematurely at about 30 weeks. And I was born prematurely also but I have a label of OCD, not AS.

I was born late, actually. I was induced after a week or so past the expected delivery date.

Two-to-three weeks early, which seems to run in my family.

I answered I don't know for myself, however my HFA son was induced a couple of weeks early. Both with pictocin and manually "breaking the waters". I have heard a connection between use of pictocin and autism or some blanket neurological disorder

I'm just testing this idea. We got a premature son 2 years ago. He was born in the 29th week.

If it seems promising, and people can answer the question properly, I will include it in the next Aspie-quiz.

Officially, there is strong comorbidity with ADHD, 20-40% on very premature children. This is currently explained as "damage" due to the premature birth, but I think this is incorrect. ADHD is a genetically based condition.

If I can link premature birth with the Aspie-axis in Aspie-quiz, I would have disproved this idea. It seems much more likely that the autistic genes themselves cause increased risk for premature birth.

It might be interesting to also include too late birth. Another of our sons were born 2 weeks too late.

I was three weeks early.
My brother with AS too, was a week late.
There is a lot of AS (diagnosed and undiagnosed) in our extended family, but not typically premature birth.

I was born six weeks premature. However, I don't think there is a connection between premature births and AS. If there were, it would have been noticed and documented by the experts who devote their careers to finding the causes/cures of/for autism. Yet I have not read anything about a connection between AS and premature births in my reading on AS.

Three weeks late. I was always one to take the longer way around something.

Just like most of my school assignments, I came in two weeks late. My procrastination started early.

6 weeks early and placenta previa. Had to stay in the hospital for about 3 weeks, while my mom had to go home after one week after the C-section.
