I'm really into linguistics right now... specifically Japanese at the moment, though I do find the whole concept of language fascinating, as well as many aspects of different languages. I just finished a book about the history of English (very entertaining, actually; a Bill Bryson book) and I got even more interested in English than I've ever really been.

I have other interests (almost all of the academic nature...), but I would consider linguistics to be my current "special interest."
