Does anybody else punch and break things when they're angry? When I'm angry or frustrated, I often punch the walls, shelves, windows, etc.
When I'm very angry or frustrated, I do it in public, but make sure I don't break anything.

Yes, I become uncontrollable during meltdowns. I have hurt some people physically that I normally wouldn't think of hurting.

Yes, I have hurt my hand bad from punching walls.
When the meltdown is from abuse I can hit myself....

Yep, throwing, punching and biting myself (ouch) Never directed towards someone though, just objects.

I used to go into my bedroom when I was really upset and beat the hell out of my pillow. I wanted to hit the person or object that made me feel that way, but I was typically in control enough that I knew that would end up badly.

Nowadays, I don't usually hit my pillow, because when I'm that upset, that I feel like I have to hit something, I usually don't even have the energy to move my arms.

No, but I understand the feelings involved. I'm just too easily embarrassed to do that. I have worked very hard to identify brewing anger, and do something about it before it bottles up. And as an adult, I have usually been able to get it out in writing if not verbally. In the event that I can't, I still have not made a scene nor broken anything. I get very upset if I damage anything accidentally and with no anger involved, let alone with. And since we have pets, and pets get very scared when they see people get violent or angry out loud, I cannot do that anyway.

I do that too. I often start tearing my hair out and punching my head. Over the years though, this self-hitting reduced and shifted more to objects.

Several times, my neighbors had to call the police (which resulted into a SWAT team arriving to my flat) because I was punching my wall so hard that they thought somebody was being beaten to death.

No - I have a severely insane psychological problem where I feel sorry for objects, so I try not to ''hurt'' objects when I'm in a rage, just as much as I try not to hurt people.

I have kicked objects what deserve it though. Like when my computer kept playing up, I gave it a massive kick, which broke it. But I don't feel sorry for it because it deserved it. But I suppose that's quite normal - like when a person has done something really nasty and another person beats them up.

Hallelujah!! ! Finally I know I'm not the only perosn who does that!!!Whenevr I'm really mad at someone, my muscles get all tense, so I HAVE to be aggressiv and use my muscles. The next best thing is to scream the most ignorant things at the person who's making me mad. If I can't do either, I ctart to have a meltdown. My mom doesn't know how to control me, so she treats me like I'm an NT when she tries to deal with me, which in the end deosn't work at all. Why? Because she doesn't understand me!

I'm a very gentle soul and I'm too gentle to do that. I just sit and cry, instead.

I like to thing of myself as a gentle person, but...
Yeah, I do this sometimes during meltdowns. Its usually when its SO BAD I feel an impending shutdown coming on. I've injured my wrist at a place of employment some years ago. It did have the positive effect of diluting my rage & making me re-connect with exactly where I was. But it was dam*ed close!
I tend more towards inanimate things because a) I'm almost a pacifist & b) much less likely to involve legal fees, jail time etc.

Sincerely,
Matthew

It's never been absolutely uncontrollable (ie I can stop myself if other people are present, at least up 'til this point), but yes. The things I've broken are generally inexpensive or extra. More often I hit myself when I'm seriously frustrated/angry, probably because those feelings are usually a result of mistakes on my part.

I feel bad about it but I get so mad at myself, and the pain helps distract me from feeling so terribly towards myself.

It's kind of embarrassing.
