Where I used to work if someone so much as stumbled or momentarily lost their balance it would be greeted with roars of laughter and sarcastic comments. If it was a full blown trip to the ground onto the face, then that would make their day. You also wouldn't get any help if you was hurt.

Yet it doesn't amuse me in the slightest. I am usually just glad it wasn't me. I got fed up with people taking pleasure in others getting into a pickle.

EDIT: I do have a sense of humour which is mainly in the Monty Python genre.

I've always thought that in order for something to be funny it must involve the misfortune of others.

It is funny, but I wouldn't let the person fallen over know that I was laughing, because it's embarrassing for them to hear some stranger laughing at them. It'd be swell if other people were also sensitive when it comes to me slipping over on ice. They point and laugh at me like little 10-year-olds in the playground.

That's weird, what happened at your workplace. I don't think it's normal. I don't find people tripping and falling in front of me to be hilarious or to cause uproarious laughter. I don't recall anyone laughing like that any time I tripped and fell. People always asked me if I was OK and offered help.

Absolutely not. Having have done that at an above-average rate as a child, I find it insulting that anyone would think falling over is funny. What if the person is seriously hurt?

its funny if they dont get hurt, you have to laugh at danger.

I do find it funny, I am very bad at laughing at innapropriate moments and it's something I have to fight very hard. I am a clumsy person though so it's often me who's falling over or walking into things.

Yup, that's me too. I was the guy who laughed uncontrollably in the highschool auditorium when the Remembrance Day bugle misfired. I know I'm a terrible man for it but I think the innappropriateness is what made it so hlarious for me.

I laughed but I was singled out for the one that laughed the hardest and got bullied on it.

I trip ALL the time, two left feet.I never thought it was funny. But one time a man who had made nasty sexual comments to me tripped and sort of rolled down the court house lawn,he didn't get hurt so I have to admit that time it was funny,Karma in action.

I was jogging on a treadmill at a gym a few years ago when I noticed some guy sauntering over to one of the machines beside me. Perhaps due to his inexperience or overconfidence, he cranked up the speed too far. I remember seeing his shape fly by in my periphery before I turned to see him sprawled out on the floor with with hands clinging to the treadmill rails. Pretending not to notice while surpressing a laugh almost put me in the same spot.

9 times out of 10 people just laugh at the situation, not so much directly at the person.

Depends on teh context. If it was a little old lady and she was really hurt, of course no laughter. If it was somebody trying to look macho hopping over a four-foot fence or trying to look sexy in four-inch heels and busting it, then hell yeah it's funny!

And I'm a klutz and I don't mind people having a laugh at me. I know I look silly quite often.

Agreed.

If someone tripped over himself or herself just to get attention, then no laughter, unless he or she had the ability to convince people he or she wasn't trying to get attention.

One time my brothers and I were going on a scavenger hunt for Easter on our land. I was in the barn and I walk out and for some reason. I trip. I didn't know there was a little drop outside the doorway so I fell down when I stepped out and mom just laughed. I remember getting upset with her about it and she said it was so funny I should see it on camera. Dad had it video taped because he happened to be filmed me when it happened. I admit now it is funny. Funny because I wasn't paying attention and I didn't even bother looking at the ground and I just assumed it was all flat.
