Oh yes, this happens to me fairly regularly. Usually if my partner interrupts me in what I'm doing to ask something simple. I'll hear the question and I'll know it sounds simple but my thoughts go something like:
Person talking to me > it's a question > it's in English > I know that keyword > why don't I repeat it out load slowly and carefully to see what it's like and buy a bit of time > "Din - ner" > "Ah, dinner. You want to know what I want for dinner?"
By which point partner is teasing me for being slow and dopey and reminding me what the English language is all about (in an affectionate way).
