I really hate how ignorant people use the word ret*d to describe things. Like when they see a YouTube video they don't like, they'll say 'that's so ret*d'. Or if they see any person who is different, they'll say, "he/she is so ret*d!" The misuse of the term is disgusting to me. Labeling a person like that just because they might be physically/mentally disabled, or because they have autism or act different, or because they're gay, or because they're from a different race, religion, etc. is very intolerable. Being different isn't necessarily a bad thing, and everyone is a person no matter what, small outside differences shouldn't matter as long as everyone is nice to each other and as long as nobody is being judged. Anyone else agree?

It is very mean and very unfair. Nobody asks to be ret*d or disabled and it is hard enough to be that already. It's not right to use words like that for those reasons.

By the way, I noticed this is your second post. Welcome to WP! :)

No. I take no offense of such words. I use them myself.

And a world where no one judges each other is a world where everyone is lobotomized in some way. I judge people harshly myself TBH. I don't care how nice they might act towards me or anyone else as long as I simply don't like them (and even if I do, I still judge them) or hate something they do (like say as has happened IRL they get a pet for their brat who then tires off it and to teach the brat a lesson they let the animal starve to death when the brat stops taking care of it). I despise a lot of people for a lot of reasons - and so do most people. And that's okay IMO, just means you're able to form your own opinions.

I'd rather have the freedom to feel and think as I do than live in a Teletubby land.

I absolutely agree with you, OP. It's also some people's judgmental attitude that is at the root of the problem.

I think there have been some threads about this topic in the past. So there have been some other people who feel in the same way.

I agree. People have misused the word ret*d to the point it would be considered offensive. This is why I prefer to say a person with special needs or someone with a learning disability.

I dislike when people use that word because my uncle suffered from hurlers syndrome, brain damage, and retardation. He died when he was 13-I was very little. To call someone or something or whatever ret*d as an insult is making fun of people actually suffering from it.

Meh, I'm queer and I call stupid things gay.
Words like that are just so overused in the slang context that they lose their original meaning entirely. There's not really a point in being offended by it because if someone uses ret*d in the insult sense, he rarely actually means mental retardation.
Also for example, b***h became so deformed in meaning that it's kinda awkward to use word if you actually mean female dog lol.

Judgment is not the cause of the problem. Its bad judgment that is the problem. Judgment is a natural thought and often a very necessary one for intelligent and good decisions. Where judgment becomes a problem is when you have someone who is not good at it. When someone uses bad standards to judge, they will judge poorly and the results of that bad judgment is ignorance and delusion on their side and mistreatment toward those they misjudge. But when someone uses good standards it produces good judgment, creating knowledge and virtue on the part of the judger and proper treatment towards those who are judged. And in judging people it is best to judge people by their character.

As to the use of the R word, the word is ignorant and insulting and has no place in the vocabulary of a civilized society, just like the N word has no place in a civilized society.

People think that I am a ret*d who should be on disability but I think that I am smarter than most people.

I recall this guy in 9th grade art class who asked if I was in the "ret*d kids math class" (something like that). I was in a (assumed, I've never actually heard it called that) remedial algebra class (I did horrible in that class since they purposefully did not provide textbooks; and I had to rely on help from teachers) since I barely passed the pre-algebra final (SOL test in Virginia) for 8th grade. His words were very insulting to me and I still think about it. I was already depressed and missing school before he said that.

I think people only use this term when they're 'cuz they are high on sugar, cuz it always sounded soooo....'hyper' to me. Completely adhd. Just listen to the sound of their voice when they say it! Pay CLOSE attension, you'll see what I mean. It seems like a blood sugar re-action.....it bothers me, too, by the way. And anyone I hear using that term, I wanna tell them to fix the foods they eat better....
