There are parts of my body that I like to stroke or touch, and I'm always stroking or touching one or another of them. Even if I don't look as though I'm doing it, I usually am doing something surreptitiously. They are these: the corners of my eyes, the very top of my head, the skin between my fingers, the skin between my toes, the palms of my hands, the inner side of my elbows, just below my knees, just below my ankle bone.

I also have to twiddle my hair around each of my fingers in turn, placing the strand just right on each finger. I can do this for hours, sometimes, while staring at the ceiling.

I know about stimming - I shake my leg and flick things (I'm expertly resonant when flicking the cover of a book), for example, but I wondered how many people do these kind of sensory stims because they like the sensation at different parts of their bodies.

I twiddle my hair but in a slightly different way, using just thumb and index finger, and creating little ropes. I don't do it so often now, but when I was in my teens it got so bad that I used to sit there staring into space, or at the TV, and create little twiddled strands uniformly all the way down my hairline at the side.

Younger than that, around the age of ten maybe, I compulsively stroked my hair on the top of my head. I did it in class and I just liked the glassy smoothness. Then one day my teacher noticed and publicly humiliated me about it, making a joke of me and saying "Oh my pretty hair, oh I love to stroke my hair!" I wanted to curl up and die. Just DIE. He made fun of it as if it were vanity, but that wasn't where I was coming from at all. I just did it as some kind of security blanket, I only now know was stimming.

This was in the 1960s and nobody even diagnosed HFA yet, so I was just a child being made fun of by a teacher. :x

If I have sensory overload I will cross my arms and stroke my forearms. I also tend to stroke my hair with my hand; this often leads me to have some wild looking hair. Something else I’ll do is rock back in forth in my chair, especially if I perceive someone is about to come interrupt my thought process.

I rub different parts of my body with a silky piece of material that I long ago named 'my tickle'.

I usually rub my tickle between my fingers but can rub my tickle against the inner side of my elbow, wrist, shoulder and neck.

I am not sure if it counts as stimming or not.

Yes, I used to run my hands through my hair so much it would literally become greasy and look awful. Still do it but not nearly as much. Barbers and hairstylists have commented again and again how ultra fine my hair is and how rare it is to see on a guy.

My favorite parts to stroke are my eyebrows, my forehead and my right shoulder. I like to rub my feet together too. I do those things mostly when I am lying down and relaxing usually before falling asleep. Sometimes I stoke my eyebrows as a stim when I am anxious especially in conversations that stress me. Those parts are particularly soothing for me.

I like to touch my hair sometimes. I would take a few strands of my hair with my thumb and index finger and rub them either up and down or in a small circular motion. I also love the feel of my fingernails because of how smooth they are.

Apparently folks on WP like to fondle their hair.

I get sucked into rubbing my fingernails against each other, or just rubbing them with my thumb, especially when they've got nail polish on and they feel smooth. And I like rubbing my knuckles together.

When I was little, I used to close my eyes very tight together and press on my eyelids to see "fireworks".

Ear, eyelid, eyebrows, face, eye, hair, hand, forearm, and, sometimes, leg.

Favorites: my ears, my eyebrows, my face and my hair.

I squish the tip of my nose with my thumb and forefinger, like I'm sharpening my nose.

My hair. Definitely my hair. I've twirled my hair ever since I was a kid; my mom says I do it when I'm tired.

Sometimes when I'm sitting, I'll rub the tops of my thighs in a circular motion, too. When I'm anxious in social interaction, I've noticed that I'll rub my arm or rub the palm of my left hand with my right thumb.

The skin between the bottom of my nose and the top of my lip.

I shake my leg a lot while sitting down. Also something else I have developed over the last 4 years or so is I rub my left index finger with my thumb. I catch myself doing it all the time. I also like to rub my eyebrows against the grain of my hair (which drives my gf crazy).
